It would be sad if GSP fought Lawler in his first fight back and got annihilated...

if that rumor turns out to be true. I mean, sure he's one of the GOATs but why would you put one of your all-time biggest stars in a fight he might be in no condition for without seeing where he's at first? It would be better to give him a fun fight against someone like Matt Brown maybe first and see if he still looks capable of fighting at the top level from there.

If he's not a shell of his former self, he wont get smoked. He could lose for sure but his wrestling matches up well with Lawler's TDD.

It would only be sad because Lawler is exciting and he would get put on his ass for 5 rounds and decisioned.

I dont get the obsession with GSP coming back... WHY? He's actually the only GOAT who can say he went out on top, why tarnish his legacy... surely he doesn't need the $$. Surely he can make $$ in a ton of other ways.

That's exactly my point, we can't tell if he is a shell or not without seeing him fight.

I don't think it would be sad but I don't like GSP's style of fighting and have always been a Lawler fan.

Lawler is a tough match up for GSP as his TDD is great and when he does get taken down he's great at getting back up quickly or sweeping. Lawler is a southpaw who is very good at shutting down the jab of orthodox fighters which is great against GSP's jab heavy style.

I don't think GSP has been the same fighter since his knee injury, before that I would favor that version of GSP over Lawler but 2016 GSP vs Lawler I think goes to Lawler by TKO/KO.

Well I would hope Georges has some sense of his capability from sparring and training post all the surgery but yeah if he was too slow to get the TD, he's prob going to sleep at some point.

there is no way to know where georges is at but he should be allowed to fight robbie right away only because there isnt a clear #2 in line.

GSP would not return if he was not prepared , both mentally and physically.
But who knows, when you include ring rust they might not be enough.

However I would expect a strong performance.

He's training and sparring with some of the best, it's not like he's sitting at home doing nothing and just jump into the octagon against Lawler. He would be ready

i am not alone in thinking that if 34 year old GSP got annihilated by 34 year old Robbie Lawler that that would be far from a sad occasion. To me that would far out shine the jubilee of Nate beating Conor. The GSP hate would be thrashing like ripe grain for months on end on Sherdog. It would be marvelous! I despise GSP.
