It sucks that Khabib retired before fighting the only interesting style matchup in the division

I love Charles but his TDD isn't good enough and he can't tap Khabib. He would spend most of the fight on the bottom and lose.

Too many BJJ guys are content to lay on their backs, they're just too damn comfortable there.

So because Khabib is better,Islam is Khabib Lite? Thats so stupid. They are two different fighters who have their own strengths.
Do you have some weird thing where you can be the only Khabib fan on the site and have to try and change everyone else's opinion?

Stay in your lane.

Aloe Vera would destroy Khabib, better everywhere.

I'm not a Khabib fan but I don't hate the guy like most of you seem to do. I actually quite enjoyed his career and watched every one of his fights and usually rooted for him to win.

But I can't deny how bad it looks that he didn't stick around a little longer to fight Charles Oliveira. Say whatever you want about Charles (that he's a fake champ, a quitter, weak minded etc.) But you can't deny that he was the only guy in recent memory who had a style that was well suited to do battle with Khabib. Both guys are grapplers but of a different kind, a classic wrestling vs BJJ fight. Except the Charles knows how to finish guys, one of the few BJJ guys left in mma that has lethal finishing techniques. Of course you gotta favor Khabib, but it would have been an interesting fight. Especially if Charles survived the early Khabib onslaught which is usually 2 rounds of non stop GnP. After that Khabib would have slowed down significantly like he did in many fights that went all 5. If Charles survived he could have seriously threatened Khabib in the later rounds. I could see him jumping on a tired khabib's back and threatening with a rear naked choke.

Oh well we can only dream. But maybe if Charles can beat Islam that would be enough to coax Khabib out of retirement. I hope so...
Islam had beaten Davi Ramos, ADCC Gold Medalist, and Thiago Moises, major BJJ Black Belt

If you compelled, curious on how Khabib does against BJJ/grappler can looked at how Ramos/Moises vs Islam turned out, Khabib certainly above Islam in term of grappling control, although Islam is more of a submission artist than GnP-er

Anyway if you wonder how Khabib does on his back:

Khabib's top control game (1:20)

Hard not to favor khabib given Paul Felder fight with Oli.

Khabib versus Charles would be a fun one since most of Khabib's high level opponents were DOA as soon as they went to the mat. It would be interesting to see the strategy each of them take if we could have a match up of their primes.

I think Islam would likely have the best chance of beating Khabib. I am not sure when each of them started their careers, but Islam is younger meaning his prime "might" be a little later giving a later version of himself (after Khabib had retired) a better fight versus prime Khabib.

The man cleaned the division. I dislike him, but I'm not blind.

Unless a guy sticks around until we get sick of seeing him lose, then he left too soon? If Khabib fought 5 more years this thread would still get made. Move on, he retired on his schedule, not yours

Theres always more fighters coming in after retirement. You can never beat everyone. Soon as you beat the guy they thought was gonna get ya? two or 3 more names sprout up.

Khabib fought much tougher and more dangerous fighters than Oliveira
They have said every fight was the worst matchup for khabib from conor to gathje. I truly feel a prime Tony was his worst matchup based on insane cardio and toughness and his unorthodox striking and scrambling. I dont think olivera or anyone with a basic (yet incredibly high level) skill set, has a chance against khabib. Tony (was) the only one I could see having any type of chance via some odd scramble into a darce or lulling khabib standing and slicing him with and elbow and getting a finish off that. We will never know unfortunately those days are behind us.

Charles only really became an interesting match-up after Khabib won.
I think watching Khabib fight is partially responsible for Charles' career resurgence.

Olivera didn't even beat Ferg and was not on the radar when Khabib retired.

Don't worry, Khabib Lite (Islam) will beat Olives down and put this to rest once and for all.
What was your old account?

Khabib beats Charles senseless on the ground. Coming from a huge Charles fan, that would be a challenge for Islam imo.

I’m just glad Khabib stayed humble on his way out…..demanding to be named number 1 in world, rich and following in Dana’s foot steps.

In khabibs defense, no matter when he retired there was always going to be "that guy" he didn't face that was supposed to be his biggest challenge. If Chandler had won the vacant belt it would have been him.
Fuck if Conor would have starched Porier there would have been people claiming he ducked him.
Yes, Charles vs khabib could have potentially been an interesting fight but to be honest Charles has shown nothing to me to think that it would have turned out any different than khabibs previous fights.
I'm not a khabib fan, but the generation that was around before him only looked worse than the current and up and coming ones because khabib put a huge gap between himself and them.
Damn dude, great minds and all that. Guessing my post wasn’t up yet when you started yours but it’s cool to see someone reach the same conclusion I did.
