There was very little grappling tonight. Almost everything was stand-up fighting. When The UFC began we saw that virtually every fight ends up on the ground. Now they don't. Why? The UFC manipulates their product to give the fans what they want to see. Jones didn't even try to wrestle his opponent after he slammed him. He just let him back up! They know their fans prefer to watch stand up fighting than catch wrestling or jiu-jitsu. The manipulation is obvious.

Yeah it's like Carla Esparza only threw headkicks and I'm like HELLOOOO can we please get back to wrastlin'????

Pointless thread until you discuss how or provide any evidence.

You don't see the manipulation? Such as when Jones slams his opponent and then just allows him to get back up instead of trying to wrestle him into a submission hold? One thing The UFC taught us is almost all fights eventually end up on the ground. Why then doesn't that hold true now? There's more money in having them stand and fight. That's why when an occasional fight does go to the ground the referee stands them up before a fighter can hook in a submission. If you can't see the manipulation I can't force you to see it. But you can count the amount of time the average fight used to happen on the ground instead of standing ten years ago compared to now if you want.

You aren't old enough to add anything of intellectual value to this thread. You wouldn't know a wrist lock from a wristwatch.

Tonight was bad matchups to see grappling. Natal couldn't take down an off balance Whitaker stumbling, Pettis looked like a 6 year old trying to take down their dad against Barboza, Mighty Mouse had an enormous advantage standing, and Jones just didn't seem to feel threatened enough to finish it on the ground.

You're a paranoid hamburglar who needs to take deep breaths and go watch a Maia fight.

Nothing is fixed, including your brain.

So you think Zuffa is paying referees to stand up fighters quicker?

These aren't "real fights" in the sense that the fighters now obsess with watching tape, gameplan, etc.
I think the reason is simple. When you fix your holes, the #1 thing for strikers was "how do I stay off my damn back".
So now peeps like Holly Holm have a style that is designed to keep em on the feet.

The referees are standing up the fighters quicker than they used to. They didn't even have a stand up rule before so of course. That was back when it was actual fighting instead of sport fighting. They called it No Holds Barred Fighting and thee were no rounds to ensure stand ups at least every five minutes. Royce Gracie would spend more than five minutes on the ground setting up a submission. First the rounds, then the stand up rule, then quicker standup, etc. How can you not see the manipulation? Real fights between two skilled opponents usually do end up on the ground.

You're talking so much non-sense. I'm not gonna sort this out. I wouldn't know where to begin.

Wrestlers have been training to stay off their backs since the beginning of wrestling. Otherwise they get pinned! Training to stay off your back is anything but new.

Did you see the takedown after that? You know, where he stayed in side control and tried to get a crucifix.. and also mounted OSP at one point, and then took his back?

Ahhh...Just forget it.

I think it's just an evolving sport. We're seeing more point fighting and less risk taking, resulting in fights going to the ground a bit less. But at the same time, we still see truly special fighters like Maia, Werdum and Jacare get fights to the ground and do some incredible things. I don't think there's any conspiracy here, it's just a young sport that's continuing to evolve.

as MMA becomes more widespread globally, TDD is being trained more extensively everywhere. The american collegiate wrestler will no longer dominate.

Took his back and then what? Back to standing.

Yeah, the wrestlers have. So now the strikers have learned to as well. Doesn't seem like a conspiracy to me, makes sense

Too many quick stand-ups.

Also fighters are so much more versed in grappling arts, they nullify each other a lot more.

The American wrestler has better takedown defense than anyone! Danny Hodge wrestled for Oklahoma and went 46-0, winning the Division 1 Title 3 times. he was never taken down from a standing position in college. If you don't know who Danny Hodge is you don't know anything about wrestling.

about american wrestling* not everybody is american silly boy

also, that wasn't the point, at all. in MMA, you don't need collegiate level wrestling abilities. It's a point of diminishing returns. You need functional wrestling that you can effectively mix in with competent striking.
