It just struck me looking at the rankings - LHW is weaker than HW

Is Patrick Cummins really the 12th best LHW in the UFC? Remember when LHW was one of the toughest and deepest classes and MW and HW kind of sucked?

I agree, 5 and up there is nothing going on at all. Its like a tickle fight.

Every few years, the top five changes (which is usually about how long it takes for them to fight one another) so I wouldn't worry about it. Some new people will pop up and fresh match ups will happen. Or we'll see a career insurgence.

Yep. LHW is as deep as a puddle of baby shit right now.

rashad, shogun and lil nog? all that needs to be said

There are two fights right now at lhw that matter in the title picture. Jones vs dc and rumble vs whoever.

Both of them are pretty weak but I agree LHW seems a bit weaker.

At first glance 205 seems weaker, but when you look at the age comparison, LHW is gonna have more longevity.

Ranking don't matter

This just sounds like a name recognition bias.

Which is the same thing which caused LHW to once be considered a strong division, even though the likes of 145, 155, 170 were more than twice as deep.

The big two divisions have always been more about celebrity and spectacle than depth of talent.

DC is undefeated at HW, loses to Jon Jones at LHW

but you are right, LHW is a bit weak. Jones is still the living GOAT tho

I think LHW has a couple of issues...

1.Those are UFC rankings and I would say theres more LHW talent outside the UFC with Davis, McGergy, Mo and several eastern European names.

2.LHW has lost talent to MW with Machida and Mousasi moving down.

Both are I think suffering from the same issues with the UFC unable to bring though new talent well.

Came in to disagree, left agreeing. Well done ts on a quality, researched thread.

Sad to see so many of the lhw top 10 apparently going downhill...

- Rub on my pips papi, rub on my pips, she pleaded to me as I pushed my way past her and headed down Calle Cinco. But even as the first watery beer started to take hold I could still hear her words, ringing through my thoughts like the Bells of Notre Dame... "you might as well watch M1".

Its been that way for a while now. Maybe since the UFC bought Strikeforce.
