I had a pretty split ballot. In Illinois so I do want a better mix than solid blue at the state and local level

We have a ballot item of a half cent sales tax for mental health, which sounds good, but we're already paying over 10% sales tax here and "mental health" is so poorly funded it's just a slush fund for the county sheriff. Yeah they used it to hire some mental health counselors for the jail... but they also bought a new shiny armored personnel carrier so they can play military police even harder.

Edit: my prior edit about the old house restoration in the nice river walk part of town, that was the half cent sales tax for civil improvements. It was meant to fix the roads. Instead it made some old brick buildings prettier for the $500+k houses around them to look at and keep their property value high.

I’m in a small-ish county than skews Democrat, so a lot of the local stuff I only had the option of voting a democrat or writing someone in—so I was happy to vote Democrat.
