Issue with basketball tournaments

On the week before the biggest 3 on 3 outdoor tournament in USA, I'm going to talk basketball tournaments.

I do them all summer and my team has won championships but never hoopfest. We make it to title game and final 4 but lose due to fouls. This then starts bickering and occasional fight.

My question is to you sherdog. Why do people call 50 fouls and cheap at that to win a T-shirt?
 
Depends on what kind of T shirt we're talking about...
 
Make your own shirt with champ on it... Win win situation.

I never been in an organized tournament like this only city leagues. Are the free throws after a certain amount of fouls or do they start right away after a foul on a shot ?

I rarely call fouls in pick ups (I know this is a tourney but I would play the same) unless the foul was done purposely/obviously or someone is repeating the same foul over and over. Even if someone gets me shooting arm on a shot or layup I don't call it if they were playing for the ball. And I prefer hard defense in general which usually means a couple fouls every play.

This is how everyone played pick up in the town I grew up in. Whenever someone from out of town would play with us they would slow the game down with too many fouls and eventually a fight would break out. Every time I would play out of town I would hate how everyone calls a foul almost every play.
 
Free throws? On a 3 on 3 game?

From where I'm from, the only free throw on those kind of game is to who gets the ball first.
If there's a foul then you just get the ball again
 
Seems weird to me. So these are official 3 on 3 tournaments, there were set-up maybe has a sponsor or two, promoted a little bit. You had to register someone gave you a match-up, time and place to play and will award you with the precious t-shirt at the end for this official tournament but there's not going to be even one ref there at any court, at anytime? You call your own fouls and shoot a ton of free throws in these official 3 on 3 tournaments?
 
If it were only for a t-shirt, you wouldn't play in the first place. I mean who would play in a basketball tournament just for a t-shirt?

You're playing for your pride and ego. And ego is the only thing I have seen motivate people as much as money does.
 
I really miss these tournaments. My friends and I used to join them when we were in High School. We always had refs though.

We never made it very far. We never practiced and I was our "big" at 6'1. Still, they were always so much fun.

1. all outdoor tournaments including biggest on 3on3 one in USA.

2. SeeSee above.

3. Not sad but a competitor who doesn't like losing to cheap calls.


4. Who gets butt hurt over a mma fighter they never met or personally know. :(
