News Islam vs Drew Dober Being Targeted for March 6th

Direct from Wiki. 6 years in the UFC.
Initially signed a 4 fight contract. He has fought 8 times since. He has pulled out of 4 fights over that period for his own reasons and missed out on 2 due to covid. A failed drug test that was later overturned cost him this fight a couple years ago. He is basically exactly where he was in 2016 due to inactivity. His best win is probably Davi Ramos who I personally rate but has been shown to be beatable on the feet as you would expect from a late transitioning BJJ fighter.

Dober will be his best win and should get him another fight around that top 10-15 range. I believe RDA would have ran through him even though tough wrestlers are his kryptonite.

On October 2, 2014, Makhachev signed a four-fight contract with the UFC.[15]

Makhachev submitted Leo Kuntz in the second round on May 23, 2015, at UFC 187.[16]

Makhachev lost by first-round technical knockout to Adriano Martins at UFC 192 on October 3, 2015.[17]

Makhachev was expected to face Drew Dober on April 16, 2016, at UFC on Fox 19.[18] After the weigh ins, the UFC announced that Makhachev had failed an out-of-competition drug screening, testing positive for the banned anti-ischemic meldonium. The match was cancelled.[19] USADA lifted the suspension of Makhachev after a hearing on July 2, 2016.[20]

Makhachev returned to face Chris Wade on September 17, 2016 at UFC Fight Night 94.[21] He won the fight via unanimous decision.[22]

Makhachev faced Nik Lentz on February 11, 2017, at UFC 208.[23] He won the fight by unanimous decision (30–27, 30–25, 30–25).[24]

Makhachev was expected to face Michel Prazeres on September 2, 2017 at UFC Fight Night 115.[25] However, Makhachev pulled out of the fight in the beginning of August citing a religious reason, and he was replaced by Mads Burnell.[26]

Makhachev faced Gleison Tibau on January 20, 2018 at UFC 220.[27] He won the fight by knockout in 57 seconds in the first round.[28]

Makhachev faced Kajan Johnson on July 28, 2018 at UFC on Fox 30.[29] Makhachev took Johnson down in the first round, where he worked to mount and secured the armbar, forcing Johnson to tap; giving Makhachev a submission victory.[30]

Makhachev was expected to face Francisco Trinaldo on January 26, 2019 at UFC 233.[31] However, it was reported on November 11, 2018 Makhachev was pulled out from the event due to undisclosed reason and he was replaced by Alexander Hernandez.[32]

Makhachev faced Arman Tsarukyan on April 20, 2019 at UFC on ESPN+ 7.[33][34] He won the fight via unanimous decision.[35] This win earned him the Fight of the Night award.[36]

Makhachev faced Davi Ramos on September 7, 2019 at UFC 242.[37] He won the fight via unanimous decision.[38]

Makhachev was scheduled to face Alexander Hernandez on April 18, 2020 at UFC 249.;[39] However, Makhachev was removed from the card due to travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic and he was replaced by Omar Morales.[40]

Makhachev was expected to face Rafael dos Anjos on October 24, 2020 at UFC 254.[41] However, on October 8, 2020 it was reported that dos Anjos tested positive for COVID-19 and he was removed from the bout.[42] The pairing was left intact and rescheduled for November 14, 2020 at UFC Fight Night: Felder vs. dos Anjos.[43] However, on November 8, it was reported that Makhachev was forced to pull from the event due to staph infection.[44][45]

It's his UFC career. You already know it as a big fan.

I only started watching UFC 2-3 years ago. I saw his old fights on Fight Pass and I read on here about USADA declaring the Moldova (or whatever its called) result a non-violation after-the-fact and that Islam never actually got a bout agreement to fight Trinaldo. Don't really know about the rest and don't care much either for stuff that many years old. Like I said in a normal year he fights twice.

im more excited in seeing @Ackmed trying to make up another excuse for Pulloutchev
than the actual fight

Well that's the argument for why he pulls out of so many fights. That's why he hasn't progressed during 6 years in the UFC and people are saying what they are saying.
I disagree and think he is potentially pretty good, but we don't know yet because he has pulled out of every fight that would have moved him up the ranks.
He is not the next Khabib, but should do well in the top 10.

Hernandez was a good match up and Dober is another good one for him. Sucks for Dober though because it will not mean much for him at all.

Ramadan is the main issue if this fight gets delayed for any reason since it's within a couple weeks of the fight. Not great if Covid is still an issue.

There isnt just one reason why he hasn't progressed as fast as he'd like, the biggest one lately is hardly anyone ranked above him wants to fight him.....FKL was an exception but the UFC didn't matchmake them. There are hardly any fighters on 6-fight win streak that only get lower ranked opponents.

Since u think it "sucks for Dober" u should watch the clip I posted just above. Unless you think you know what's better for Dober than Dober himself lol

What' wrong with unranked whenIslam is unranked? He has been given the option against top 15 and hasn't made the fights. Why would a top 15 fighter want to fight someone who has regularly pulled out of the match up with a good wrestling skill set you need to specifically game plan for? Lee wanted to take the fight as a way to get to Khabib.

Dober is right at that point where he can take that fight and then move forward from there. He needs to show his ground game has improved because it has been a weakness in the past. He basically says I am fighting Islam because he is good and russians will watch him because Khabib. Dober knows his place in the top 15, while Islam has tried to pick fights he hasn't earned and then not turned up to a lot of fights he has signed for. As I said I think Islam is good, but he needs to actually make those fights to progress.A win streak is great, but who cares if you average 1.5 fights a year during his time in the UFC. Bring back 2011 Islam where he managed 5 fights in one year as per his wiki.

Fighter Kevin Lee was calling him out for like a year and it never happened.

Lol Islam is the one who has been calling Kevin Lee since 2015, and kevin never replied, tried to pretend Islam was not on his level. Kevin Lee was too busy trying to pretend he would dethrone Khabib. Unfortunately for him, the wheel turned against him and he realised that maybe Islam wasnt that bad of a fight then started to call him out, but then it was apparently UFC blocking it, Khabib talked about it, even Lee talked about UFC brass didnt want to hear about that fight. Now Lee is falling into a not so great situation and he's injured. Islam never ducked kevin Lee, on the contrary.

From calling out McGregor and Chandler to dropping out of the RDA fight now to Dober, jeez Islam's going the wrong direction. Dober's not an easy out either.
The only way i see Islam wins this fight is by decision and if Dober beats him then it has to be by KO/TKO but i favor Islam in this fight

Lol boy u type long-winded

Wrong - Islam is ranked.

He only got a ranked opponent once (RDA at LW while he was ranked at WW), or maybe Alex can't recall if he was 15th at the time but regardless the fight was cancelled.

Pullout merchant is an excuse contards use because Conor himself used that excuse to avoid Khabib for years once he got the LW title.

We know how that story ended and similarly in time Islam will get his fair due

Well there you go. He snuck into the rankings. Happy to be corrected.

Hernandez was around number 15 at the time I believe and has been ranked in top 15 after the Dariush win. I think Islam must have slipped into Hernandez spot and I missed it.

The argument doesn't change that he has pulled out of lots of fights that would have progressed him.

BTW I am a fan of Islam as I said. I just think he can lose this fight. He will never unlock his potential because he fails to make it to fights to progress.
Most of that is because he pulls out due to various reasons. He always makes it to fights he should win pretty easily. Just an observation.

Dober improved massively and starched two prospects who were supposedly great in standup. Unless he fares badly on the ground, he should win this and put Islam train to rest.
