I think it's safe to say the Poirier Islam fought tonight is measurably improved to the one Khabib strangled. It's inspirational seeing a guy evolve so much in the later part of his career.

He has all the makings of a great, great champion. One that possesses the drive and relentlessness to overcome adversity, and really makes each title defense compelling.

Not saying that Khabib wasn't a great champion and that he didn't have these qualities, but he was far too superhuman in his dominance at times there's kinda a little less pathos when he wins.

Yeah, him pulling that off at a time when Dustin is famous for gaining momentum was beautiful.
And, to your point, there is definitely a grittiness to him.
