My God man, get the basic facts correct before co-signing on war. Saddam never oppressed Christians, he oppressed Shias, who aren’t a
minority they’re actually the majority. He never used chemical weapons on Kuwait, he’s alleged to have used them on the Iraqi town of halabja. And citing Iraq’s war with Iran as one of the justifications for invasion is pretty rich considering that the US urged him to invade Iran and supplied him with weapons, satellite imagery and intelligence, etc. Saddam was a bad and oppressive guy, but he wasn’t the first bad guy nor will he be the last bad guy in the world, there are plenty of those. It is NOT a justification for an illegal invasion of another country. Also, per the Lancet (a reputable medical journal in the U.K.) millions of civilians are thought to have died as a direct result of the US invasion, but the exact number doesn’t really matter. Whether it’s a million or 250k, that scale of suffering is immense and whoever supported and encouraged that invasion deserves to live in shame for eternity. Christopher Hitchens included.
My last point is that my biggest frustration with Americans (speaking as an American) is that we mostly refuse to learn anything about the world and yet we’re always convinced that the US must be the good guys. No offense but from your post it’s pretty clear you’re clueless about how things went down in Iraq and yet you’re perfectly willing to live in the illusion that “if the US invaded another country it must’ve been justified”. The invasion of Iraq was one of the most grotesque acts of mischief and bullying any modern country has ever engaged in and we were absolutely the villains. Americans need to stop living in the fantasy that we’re always the good guys.
