Khabib equaled the title defences of the previous top guys and left the sport before being able to make that claim. Poirer and Gaethje are great wins, Conor isn't at LW. Conor is 1-3 including the Khabib loss. he just didn't hang around long enough to be called the LW Goat or have a claim to overall GOAt of anything.

Moises has a heel hook locked in but same thing here, the round ended and Islam got a lucky break

Even though Islam never has been submitted, he keeps getting caught in submissions.

He wasn't submitted it that positions - it means that his defence is good. Also that guillotines are not dangerous at all. Armpit should be closer to the top of the head, not on the back of the neck.

Best wins are RDA (great win), Barboza, Johnson then Iaquinta for the belt. He probably has the best title defences of the potential contenders with Ghost of Mcgregor, Poirer and Gaethje (these two are great wins). He has 6 great wins in 29 fights. That's not a GOAT resume. He was a defence from LW GOAT claim by taking out Olivera, Chandler or one of the top guys. Not even worth a mention for overall GOAT. He isn't even in the top 10.

Top of the head? That's a bad guillotine...Those were some deep guillotines and credit for getting out.

It looks bad, but it always taps. Look to Rafael Alves' from recent. Also Fig's on Alex Perez. It looks like it is about to slip out, but it allows to generate big pressure on the throat. Whereas these "deep" guillotines on the pictures, they have too little space between armpit and forearm, to squeeze it further, because biceps won't allow it. But in the same time there are too much space for neck.

Did you watch Oliveira vs Kevin Lee?

Kevin is nowhere near the grappler as Islam and he controlled Oliveira on the ground for about 6 mins in rounds 1&2, defended his sub attempts and landed some ground and pound. He lost early in round 3 but relatively speaking if Kevin was able to control Oliveira on the floor for 2 rounds Islam will have no problems doing the same for 5 rounds if needed.

That's submission escape. Not defending it.

Your wording isn't clear, but I understand what you are conveying. But this is Sherdog so most will take this too literally. But I get the gist of your post and makes sense to me

Defense is not letting the position happen, escape is letting the position happen but finding a way out

The lower body control is the issue in each of these guillotines above. Islam gets his hips up which prevents them being able to get the finish.
Figgy locked in Perez and I haven't seen the other fight.

If they had locked Islam down better or swept andd finished from the top, Islam would ahve been finished. Back of the head might let you crunch down more but If someone can get there hips up it's easier to escape if they don't put themselves in deeper.. Gloves definitely are the major difference though.
