Ye olde 50g weight on the tab key.

I stay workin', max productivity.

Most of the jobs I had, yeah, they tracked activity by multiple means. Contributions to git or corporate wiki, timesheets, software activity trackers, manual online status checks.
We have a much more employee-oriented system here so you need to fuck up big time to have problems, but still not pleasant at all.

When I worked for a telecom/cable I could tell what shows you watched or were watching (and change your channel) , where you browsed and for how long. I could look up your calls and sometimes retrieve VMs...

Most porn folks were like 5 min or less. I'm assuming 4+ min were spend finding content.

<lol>

I don't do it with Spyware or anything I just know where everything is and about how long it should take them to get back. So I might not know exactly where they went but I know they went somewhere else besides where they were supposed to be.

In the recent times ,i see that the line managers are checking the online status of their team members by looking into their skype or teams status.
Anyone here has such experiences ?
Yes I am.

Not “officially,” but I know that our chief has used Teams in an attempt to ascertain who isn’t working when they should be.
The problem is that Teams will show you as unavailable after 5 minutes of inactivity. And Teams only considers what you are doing “activity” if Teams is your active window and you click or type in it within that 5 minutes.

So you could be working on something in any other program, with Teams still open, and it will show you as being unavailable or missing or whatever the status message is.

I don’t track my employees. Although through intelligent hiring practices I have solid department managers and I put pressure on my management level employees to make sure their teams are handling all of their specific tasks and duties. So I guess I “track” them via high level tracking of individual teams through meetings multiple times weekly with their department heads. Although we are still in the small business category with just under 100 employees.

I don't actively "track" my higher level employees but I do tend to notice after a while which people always respond right away and which ones take a long time and never seem to be available.

At the end of the day I judge them on the quantity and quality of their work.

But if someone's not hitting their deadlines and they make some dumb excuse, I have no qualms about telling them to stop fucking around.

My entry level employees get tracked though. Not by some secret spyware or anything but just by monitoring their output. My data entry people better complete a certain number of entries per hour. My customer service people better answer so many calls per hour, or be in an available status.

My sales people get to goof off the most. Because as long as they hit their quotas then I don't care what else they do. But oddly enough, they usually end up being the hardest workers because that want that big commission check.
My wife and I are both managers and we operate pretty similarly. You definitely have to keep an eye on newbies to make sure they get with the program and handle their shit, but good workers usually get more leeway. My best guy goes to the gym at lunchtime everyday and idgaf since his work is so solid.

However, I will say if someone is habitually away on Teams for long periods of time then I’ll bring it up. The type of finance I do is largely a support-type role, and if our project managers or someone in my upchain can’t get in touch with you then it makes me look bad.

My boss is a dick

I’m self employed. No, I’m not tracking anyone. I have GPS on the company vehicles incase they get stolen but I don’t actually check them.
If you are self employed then you are business...this reality... no boss here.

From one point tracking done by companies might be From check up when you enter office and ofc what stuff you will do with PC etc till when you will leave office.
Some bosses are even more strict than panal colony supervisors.

Then another form of nightmare might be if they will refuse to track time at all.
For example: we just have tasks given in Monday ( for example) and delivery time will be next Monday ( as deadline term ) and you then might have maybe 10 hours or 90 hours to work till next sprint delivery time. This might be real beauty. Additionally might be excuses that they had forget to switch on tracking stuff, they are friendly and doesn't insist to work certain hours etc.

If they absolutely doesn't track they really might put damn a lot of workload on you and always will use excuses.

BTW for translators sometimes are used methods like very short timeframe given and ofc they will not agree to pay for work like night hours etc. Therefore tracking OFF, delivery timeframe set and ofc better if this will be remote job with self employed contractor. Bonus also will be that they will not pay for electricity you will use etc....usually.

I wish they would try and track me and tell me something about it.
