If somebody watches the sport for one fighter, then it's hard to even call them and MMA fan. More like a [insert fighter name ] fan alone.

That's ignorant of the facts. Sure we all get to converse with each other on sherdog, but how about real life? Watch parties and going to bars and sold out arenas and barbershop conversations. Most of the very few people we talk about mma with in real life know 1 or 2 fighters or big name stars. All that goes away if UFC and MMA lose popularity back to being a fringe sport.
