Is this the greatest song in human history?

The most masculine lyrics ever "A man should strengthen himself"

"With a defiant spirit, I sneer at all adversity.
With a spirit burning hotter than the red hot sunlight,
With daring forged of iron, with character forged in steel,
With the broadest aspirations, with a far-sighted vision,
I vow to push myself to become a true hero.

To become a great hero, each day you have to push yourself:
A man’s spirit should burn brighter than the red hot sun.

I’ll gather the power of the seas and the skies,
I’ll rend the heavens, and split open the earth,
Just so I can seize upon my dreams.

Gaze upon the lofty, azure waves and the vast blue skies:
That is me, the man of determination.

Step confidently and stand boldly, like pillars of the nation! Become true heroes!
Use my example to ignite a hundred souls, shining forth like a thousand points of light.

To be a true hero, your soul and your courage must burn, burn brighter than the red hot sun."

This was the actual song that tenacious D sang to the devil to keep their souls.

This right there is an all time great song.
Far better song writing, structure, attention to detail and variety.

Sounds elitist as f*ck, i know, but Opeth is by most meaningful metrics one of the best bands of all time.

The guitar work is decent but the singing sucks and it goes on way too long

The guitar work is marvelous!

The singing is not for everyone, though Akerfeldt is a great singer for that genre.

As for the length: different tastes as well. Everything below 4 minutes is just what we're used to due to the radio etc., because if commercial success is the sole purpose of a song, below 4 minutes is ideal (plus simple, easy to remember melodies, texts, etc.)

Yeah with the 2000s long gone, the meaning of pride has changed. It was truly a different era. Something we’ll never experience again.

I'm not a huge fan of the '5 songs in 1' formula unless they fit together really well with some kind of continuity, why not just make 5 songs?

Because the musicians want it that way, that sounds oversimplified, but it's hard to explain. (I'll try though)

The more creative you are, the more you enjoy being creative and a longer song leaves much more space to be creative and while you guys like Opeth could just "distribute" their riff material, so to speak, into more (and shorter) songs, it's balancing all these different melodies out and crafting them together into one whole song, them really shine, imo.

The longer and more detailed a song is about to be made, the more space is there to tell a "story" to the listener, be it a literal story or a kind of "story" that's all about what the listener feels.
The difference between these dark and grim sounding growls and the accompanying thunderous and malevolent guitar riffs and the regular singing to soft(er) sounding accoustic guitars and other instruments is one of the things i really love about Opeth - many of their songs are very much like classical music in that regard and just speaks to the listener in another way that a very fun pop song (for example) does.

The cool thing about songs like these is, is that you can listen far more often to them without being annoyed by them, because they're extremely varied in terms of melody, rhythm, etc. and even after many listens, you'll likely still discover details you haven't had an idea that they were there about before.

All this being said, i also love a ton of regular pop, rock and whatever songs and i'm very glad that there's so much different music out there.
I'm a big fan of Lady Gaga's music (mostly the older songs) and i think you're familiar enough with her music to know that it's completely different from Opeth (but in my eyes, still very artistic - just in another way).

Sorry for the wall of text bro.

10 minutes is rookie numbers anyway.
