Jones, DC, Rumble, and Gus.

Skill-wise, would any other group of LHWs beat these 4? I could be 100% wrong, but I don't see the likes of Liddell, Hendo, Machida, Shogun and Wand beating any of these 4. Like I said, could be wrong since I didn't watch the older guys fight live.

Jones and DC are the 2 best LHW of all time and it's not even close.

Prime Liddell and Machida would get their chin checked regardless imho. Prime Wand can certainly present some problems for Rumble and Gus. Prime Shogun can beat DC, Rumble or Gus. But I think DC may be able to weather the early storm.

Well, a past his prime Shogun took Gus to a decision and if I remember correctly, won a round.

A past his prime Machida tagged Jones clean and made a fight of it until the hellbows wrecked his world.

Chuck in his prime was a nightmare for anyone to deal with. Great defensive wrestling, strong chin, huge power in both hands, knew how to mix in kicks. Probably loses to Jones and DC, but beats Rumble and Gus.

Wand was a complete and total savage, although he was a bit rudimentary, and had a tendancy to go totally nuts and start swinging wildly at random times even at his best. I'd venture to say that he loses to all four, but I bet Gus is a war.

Hendo at his best probably loses to Jones and DC, but beats Rumble and Gus.

Shogun at his best in 2005 could potentially beat all four, but I wouldn't bet on him against Jones.

All in all, styles make fights, and we'll never know for sure. However, the fighters of yesteryear were damn tough and should not be discounted by any means.

Shogun, Rampage, Chuck, Wanderlei, Hendo, Machida and Randy.

I believe that Jones stands above them all in skill but fans on here severely underrate past LHWs and overrate current ones. Rumble is extremely one dimensional. Sure he could knock anyone out but that’s all he has.

Rampage and Wanderlei used to have chins and they could light Rumble up.

The current LHW division is worse than it's been since Tito was champ. The golden era for LHWs was the mid-2000s, where Pride boasted Wand, Shogun, Rampage, Arona, Overeem, and Randleman, while the UFC simultaneously had Chuck, Tito, and Randy.

DC and Jones would obviously be great in any era, but LHW has failed to develop prospects over the years; so much so that a guy like Bader has been top 5 year after year. All the LHWs I mentioned above would be favored over Bader.

Guys like Gus and Rumble are obviously good, but Gus is more acclaimed for his losses than actual wins, and Rumble falls apart in big fights.

This thread seems like a good example of recency bias.

I'd put Jones and DC up there, but not Gus and Rumble.

When you look at some of the greats over the years, I think lots of them would have a good shot at Gus and Rumble.

Belfort (did beat Rumble), Couture, Shogun, Rampage, Wandy, Liddel, etc. even Ortiz and Overeem I'd give an outside shot.

Skill wise it would be hard to compete with those... but in terms of the divisional strength you couldn't really beat

Chuck
Tito
Randy
Arona
Rampage
Shogun
Ninja
Wand
Overeem
Saku
Hendo
Sokodojou

This , I think most sheepdogs memories are not good, or most of them are new to MMA

Pride 2003... 2005 Grand Prix. When the best in the top 10 were Prime.

Id put Gus and DC up there but not Crumble and Roidhead.

Yes I think so, purely because of Jones and Cormier, I don't think anyone else in other era's would have beaten them.
