Nature & Animals Is this how you suppose to react to a bear when it attacks you?

That's a very small bear.

Good luck doing that with a grizzly or polar bear.

True, those bears are ruthless and relentless.

In the video was that a brown bear?

It might be small compared to grizzlies but it can still maul a person. It still take tons of guts and composure to do what he did.

I agree, I'd be scared even it was smaller in stature compared to Grizzlies or Polar Bears.

100% but in the video, it's not just one person. He has a whole group yelling and screaming at the bear, so it wasn't just him.

That's a pretty damned big bear, mate.

It looks like a coastal brown bear, because they seem to be in Alaska, I would think. Those bears are bigger than grizzlies.

Brown bears are the same thing as grizzlies - grizzlies are a subspecies of brown, a smaller version with a hump on the back and frosted tips.

Brown bears can be twice the size of grizzlies, though grizzlies are thought to be more aggressive.

Either way, that bear in the video was more than big enough to annihilate a human in one swipe.

Think it works unless they are starving or accustomed to humans. Then better have something more than your lungs or it's gonna be a bad day.

The ones that raid vacation spots in the mountains because dumb people can't clean up after themselves or use the caged up trash cans will give you the fuck off look like a disgruntled employee being told break's over by the supervisor.

Fight the bear, if you see me fighting a bear, help the bear.

Without a shotgun, I guess this is the only viable way.

It's a decent strategy. The bear wants you to run away and if you don't, it causes them to hesitate and think, "why isn't this thing afraid of me? It's smaller than I am. Maybe it's more dangerous than it looks. Shit, this might turn out like that honey badger, or that porcupine, or that skunk... I better just get outta here."

The scariest thing about bears though is that there is no strategy that works every time. Even having a gun just increases your odds, but plenty of people with guns got mauled anyway.

I hate those videos that cut out before the good part. Like what are you getting out of that? Some kind of thrill from pissing off your viewers?

Yea, I put it up just because I was amazed at the speed of it.

I don't blame you. It's the person who edited off the end.

But yeah, bears are scary fast when they want to be. I live in grizzly country so I obsessively read about every attack and watch every video I can find.

Sadly I'm starting to see more fakes too as AI improves. Pretty soon it will be hard to learn about bear behavior from videos because the fakes will outnumber the real ones.

Here's one of my favorites. Look how fast you go from not seeing Mama Bear at all, to oh shit she's almost on them.
