i was just wondering if anyone has ever tried or been taught the submission that joachim hansen demonstrates in this video:

if so, have you been able to use it effectively? it doesn't seem like there would be too many situations in which it would be preferable for you to attempt that choke instead of a rnc or something else more standard. i tried it a couple times when sparring the other night, but i wasn't able to use it too effectively. thoughts?

Eh... putting your arm in that situation is never a good idea. If you lose one of your hooks, your arm is right there for a kimura.

ok well first, you are going to get kimura'd

second, what happens when the guy rolls to his right, he just lands on his face and cant finish the choke

third, why do that complicated shit? the RNC is easier, more affective, and harder to defend

What happened to all his hair? Is he having chemotherapy? His head looks like a skull! Is he alright?

If it works for Hellboy its good enough for me.

It looks like a set up to a wrestling guillotine, where the top man puts in a hook and hangs his head waiting for the sucker on bottom to reach back.....only...different...

If a guy pulled my arm to one side, an armbar is the more appropriate option.

Actually you use this when you go for rnc but your opponent pulls your arm over his head to the other side......

If anyone leaves their neck THAT exposed, they deserve to get caught in that stupid "technique". That's the kinda crap filler you see in Kung Fu magazines, all flashy half baked bullshit that will never work on a real opponent.

Never said that. That technique needs a few perfect things going on in order to work, and I highly doubt that would ever work in 99% of times attempted. Sure it looks great when applied to a passive body, but try that in a real match where anyone with a bit of sense will have his chin tucked and neck defended. Then even if you get one arm around the neck and the guy bucks hard you'll get a chance to kiss the mat as your mouth bounces off of it.
