who didnt appreciate maia's performance? if i didnt train id prolly find it boring, but the efficiency of his movement and attacks and how he makes it look so easy is fucking beautiful to me. i find it impossible not to root for him these days

"makes it look so easy"

took over 2 rounds to finish a guy with worst sub defense in division who won't even be top 10 after this year.

on the contrary if he lasts 2 rounds with maia you know his sub defense is actually really good

And yeah maia is awesome to watch but if you can stuff the td he is fucked

I think what OP means about making it look easy is the fluidity and efficiency in which Maia moves on his opponents. A lot of BJJ guys and wrestlers really muscle their way around the mat, Maia is so unbelievably technical and has absolutely mastered the basics of BJJ. People will look back at Maia as reference on how to successfully use BJJ in MMA.

Also say what you want about Brown, I'm not even a fan at all but you can't deny the dude is tough as nails.

Maia made one of the toughest mofo / seasoned Vet look like a newbie...

Maia is AWESOME!!!

I train pawbars with my cats, I even once applied a kittenmura too. so yeah I train jiu jitsu, would say I am at a developed stage at this point. I appreciate Maia, great BJJ skills.

i think if i ever have trouble sleeping rewatching this fight will help. i'm going to say you are in the minority on this one.

I train sherdog. You see this green belt? Yea, I earned that. That means I know more about this bloodsport than you do. Try to jitz me with your white belt. I'll touch you with teh jab from a distance and when the timing is right, i will successfully attempt a flying gogo which will render you unconscious.

6 years to purple belt here.
Maia did a good job of maintaining the back and his shits were not spectacular. I will say that his patience on the back was something to admire. Most guys (myself included) would have really pushed to make something happen especially after 10 minutes of being on some guys back like that but it would have made it easier to lose that position. So I commend him for that. His fight with Sonnen was very impressive from a grappling standpoint though. The takedown was truly amazing concidering a grappler of Chael's caliber and the finish was very slick.

He's strength at 170 is far superior.

He grinds guys away just like Randy and they break.

It's very hard to keep him from spider monkeying all over your back!

His opponents are rendered useless and at his mercy!

naw more like his MMA bjj is overrated. He has only 3 sub finishes in his last 18 fights.

its not just about the finishes. its also the way he seamlessly passes the guard and transitions into mount and/or takes the back and their opponents are completely defenseless. its awe inspiring man

Bro this is sherdog we all train... Look I have a green belt

I liked his performance but he looked a lot better against gunner who is a higher level than brown. His control is incredible wish he would have got that choke faster it took too long for someone at his level. Maybe the age is catching up to him ?

so clay guida was also awe inspiring to you? such an amazing wrestler got takedowns with easy and held his opponents against their will, john fitch too, such a talent, so fun to watch.
