Is the UFC going to buy Bellator??

Im a long time fight fan and watch all organizations. The UFC never mentions the name bellator during broadcasts or even recognize their world champions as champions in fight introductions. Chandler isnt the 3 time world champion during his introduction. Recently i have noticed the commentary team say the competitions name. Last night i think i figured out that the UFC is swooping in and buying bellator. Dana in his post fight press conference went on a rant about Francis and the PFL. talking about buying it for 250-300 million with middle eastern money through fundraising. He was absolutely flabbergasted about that like he knows something. It might have been the first time i heard him actually say bellator. Not sure tho. Today i went on youtube and was watching the pre TUF thing with chandler and ANIK acknowledged chandlers credentials using the word bellator in an official UFC show. Very odd.

2 minutes into this video and anik clearly says bellator.

This will be exciting like the WEC/UFC merger and will prove how elite other organizations are.

Welcome back Coker. You did it again son.

Lol. Dana always laughs last

If you were trying to buy a business the last thing you would do is start mentioning it during broadcasts - all you do is bring more attention and pump the price

I highly doubt its worth 100 million.

Wow. They did say bellator in the introduction for that fight.

Yeah they said it for his introduction, was really strange to hear. There’s been a bunch of Bellator champs come over and they’ve never mentioned it in the past. I guess Dana has really wanted Chandler for years.

I think the only reason they never bought them sooner is because of the antitrust lawsuit. With One, PFL, and BKFC rising up they’d have the wiggle room to say they don’t have a monopoly if they bought them now.

Don't think so.

Bellator is better for them as a (shitty) competitor who can't ever compete with them but are good enough to keep people from officialy accusing the UFC of being a monopoly/monopsony.

To buy them would mean to get a huge headache and gain almost nothing in terms of fighters/views/sponsors/money.

Anything could happen I suppose and it's not like there aren't ample precedents for the UFC buying another org, but I don't see it happening now. The UFC is so big that they have little to fear from the competition for the foreseeable future. Right now the UFC has more to fear from anti-trust lawsuits and actions by the government than they do from any of their current competitors. They need a few relatively healthy competitors out there so they can support their case that they are not a monopoly.

They will only sink that ship once they buy it, Strikeforce is gone.

It seems like PFL is raising some middle eastern money in order to buy Bellator. Makes sense for them. They get an excellent fight catalog, and would have the second best roster in the world, overnight. I think that some version of this move is necessary, if they are going to build excitement for some of the big PPV stuff they want to do in 2024. Having Usman Numagomedov, AJ Mckee, Nemkov, Pitbull etc... would make putting together premier cards possible. Not sure how it works otherwise.

Wouldn't make sense to buy it...most of the roster are people they let go and didnt want

Imagine the PFL/Bellator Alliance to end UFC!

Would be a damn fine org. Could only imagine how many guys would jump ship, and force the UFC to really kick it up a notch.

I think that's a very unlikely dream, but we can always hope lol.

No, the UFC isn't going to buy Bellator, but my resolve isn't because of any "word on the street..." it's legal reasonz.

The UFC has a HUGE!!! LEGAL ISSUE with being a monopoly, & absolutely needs the appearance from other orgs that they are actually considered "competition."

Before the monopoly allegations, Bellator would do events on Wed to avoid competing with UFC shows... but then the UFC started pulling Wed. cards out of nowhere and on very short notice in order to lessen their profits.

After the monopoly allegations, the UFC not only stopped doing that, they actually released many of their top stars such as Bader & Rory etc... for Bellator to pick up.

So they can't just consume Bellator like they did all these other orgs... in fact, it seems very likely they NEED Bellator to succeed.

Another fun fact is that Bellator was in the red as a business for most of its lifetime & only just recently made an actual profit. Their parent cable company was keeping them afloat even though they were a drag on the bottom line, so it doesn't make sense that they would sell it now that it's actually making a profit.

The likely reason they hyped Chandler's Bellator championships is to try & get some validity from the casuals as to why he's a valid opposing coach to the champ champ, since Chandler's UFC record doesn't have that same pop.

Hope Dana doesn't take the bait on this one cause all Scott Coker is going to do is make another company for Dana to buy

Word on the street is Daner is gonna buy PFL and make the Frank vs Jones fight

Bellator is terrible at promoting itself. You look at ONE and they are awesome at promoting themselves

No. Cause it'd make them a monopoly. They need a competitior which is serious but which can't dispute the general publics idea that UFC=MMA. Coker is great at acquiring talent horrible at using it. He's the perfect rival for the UFC.

ONE is in Asia and the PFL is not a serious competitor middle eastern money nonwithstanding(if PFL buys Bellator they should abandon the PFL brand and keep operating as Bellator).

It would make sense. Buy out the 2nd largest mma company so PFL doesn't make a powerplay for it. Sadly Fedor is no longer in it. But we might get Fedor in a ufc video game and that could be cool
Faceplant Frodo gets knocked out almost every fight. And yet you people can't stop talking about him.

ONE FC could then merge with PFL-Bellator to create a Kaiju-sized international promotion to properly rival UFC.

No they couldn't. A merger like that would fizzle out as fast as it arrived. Sure, the first 1 or 2 cards would be OK, but then what? They simply don't have enough name power or an angle to make it long term.

UFC haters don't seem to realize just how much the UFC has put into marketing their product and building the brand. It's fashionable to hate on the biggest and brightest of the pack, but there's no denying that they've put the work into being the #1 by a mile.
