Is the Mendes Bros online website down for everyone?

Yes it's down.

FWIW they have been trying to launch a new website design for a while and maybe this is just their not so smooth transition into doing that

i will never understand how such an amazing resource can be run by such incompetent people.

from a technical perspective, running a site like that isn't difficult at all. and they keep having some fuckups... fire your IT crew, rafa!

Came to here to check on this as well.

Do you get a reimbursement of any kind for the downtime ?

it looked up earlier today. There was an FAQ where they said all the accounts were cancelled and we'd all have to sign up again.

The new site though, looked insane. Basically, EVERY technique from every looked like it was posted. This includes morning classes
from all of the assistant coaches, everything. Am looking forward to seeing the new site.

This was just forwarded to me by a buddy of mine. Has anyone subscribed to both Mendes and MG? If you had to pick one, which one you think is better value? (not considering the new site)

Damn so AOJ is about to start updating multiple times daily and not just daily? wow. I hope they don't delete all of the content they had so far though

They have been filming like crazy everyday for the past months or so...

should have a fuck load of techniques.

Ok I tried the new site. Pretty crazy.

- Instead of one video a day, between 8-15 videos a day. This volume is a huge game-changer for online sites.

- All videos are the low res version now.

- Gui and Rafa teach as before. New teachers are Rick Slomba, Gu Fonseca, Chelsea Leah,Nick Bohli, and a few others.
They each bring slightly different emphasis of technique, which is good. In other words, it's better to have the same technique
shown by 5 AOJ instructors rather than having Gui show it twice. I've seen them all a few times now; all of them are capable instructors.
In particular, I like Rick Slomba, who fills in some knowledge gaps that I had.

- With the extra videos, they show some different techniques than before. In the old videos, they showed very few escapes, very little closed guard, not that much spider or lasso (until very recently). The new videos show a lot more rounded BJJ game than before, though still no half or DHG.

- There is finally a search function. It works at least somewhat; I have not tested it extensively.

- The organization is better than before, though not on the estimainaction or mginaction level.

- the 'inaction' websites still have a better search for techniques used during sparring.

- It looks like AOJ beginners spend a lot of drill time on guard retention, which is awesome. Beginners spend way too much time on submissions
that they'll never hit and not enough on guard retention.

- The site has a few glitches still. If you mouse over certain areas, it stops you from seeing the video, the audio doesn't always start right away, stuff like that.

- I don't see as many sparring matches as before. Not sure if that's permanent or temporary or if I missed it.

- Finally, I see a few of the old videos that I recognize but I'm not sure if they all made it. I'm thinking a lot of the videos are lost.

If they can keep this volume up, it will be insane. I'm thinking of cancelling all of my other subscriptions (except for estimaonline), that's how big of a change this is.

This is a good review bit unless they plan on bringing back the couple thousand videos that are now gone? Then it's a bummer for s long time user of the site to have 75 plus favorited videos gone forever.

the site admins really don't give $#% if its down. you'll get an apology and a notice when it's back up, but no offer of free / make-up time.

If you look in the library, there are 43 pages of 24 videos per page, with videos dating back to 2014. I actually think they have even more videos than previously released, because they have a lot of stuff from events like the Rickson cup, which I never recall seeing when I was previously subbed. That said, there are videos I've seen that I can't find any longer, so I'm not sure if they just went and renamed things.

The sheer volume of daily videos is just incredible. It looks like they started this on March 7th, and on that day alone they put up 21 videos. The InAction sites still have the best search tool and system, but this is game changing in terms of level of product, and I can only hope other big sites follow suit.

you are just making assumptions without any evidence. They sent me an email with a coupon code giving me a free month for the inconvenience of the site being down

You got lucky. I've used the site since the day it came out and I've had a ton of issues and while they are sometimes helpful I've also not ever had them go out of their way to do much. Certainly no free coupons lol. I'm glad they hooked it up!

Then maybe it's just the search library that isn't populated with all the results yet? Actually I don't know. Maybe it's my browser but when I try to go back to 2012-2015 dates and click day by day, I'm not really seeing anything.

If you check their search library for sparring or any no gi or gi techniques there are definitely zero results from 2012-2014 and maybe a couple from 2015.

The Mendes brothers always claim that DHG sucks so I would be surprised if they taught it.
The have a tiny bit of half guard stuff with some of that escaping out of there.

It was down for less than a day, and it came back with way more than before - and you want a reimbursement? Seriously?

Come on man.
