Is tatooing your body worth it?

I see many guys that train martial arts eventually tatooing their body, with long decorative designs on their arms, and walking around showing them off like they're the shit.
I'm wondering do these guys regret doing the tats? Or do they regret in the future?

Why would they regret it?

it may look good now, in their prime , but once you reach that old age, it doesn't look good

The older people get, the less they give a damn what they look like.

That's true. But what's also true when you get old is: you care how others look at you, you care more about respect from others.

Actually you care LESS about what others think as you get older.

I've got my knuckles done. A sleeve, a quarter sleeve, elbow cap, forearm piece, three on my legs, my chest, stomach and back.

why would you care about how tattoos look in old age? ALL of your skin looks like shit in old age, not just the tattooed parts, lol.

I'm pushin' 40 now and I'm really happy that I didn't get any done when I was young and dumb. My tatted up friends look like a bunch of fat, shifty hobos now, while I look like a svelte, dapper gentleman in comparison. 'Course that might have something to do with the quality of the tattoos they got done in their early 20'ies.

I'm old and I don't care about anyone's opinion but my own.

"I looked so cool when I was young, beautiful, and TST but now at the end of my road when no one gives a shit including me some ink on my skin is a little blurry. I don't know how I could possibly make it another day."

Spoken like a true young dude.

Tattoos that mean shit can be cool. I see quite a few facial tattoos in the younguns these days, they're about the only ones that seem to have impact. The standard shit that most people have comes accross as needy.

Two of my friends are a knife throwing act, guy and girl. It really suits their lifestyle, I'm entirely a fan of their body art.

Got another friend who's a dweeby electrician with full sleeves of whatever he thought about at the time done by local average artists. His art looks bad and doesn't suit him or his life.

Spot on.

If you enjoy art and/or tattoos, get them. Don't get stupid shit. Make sure it's quality work.

If you don't like tattoos, don't get them. Simple.

How they look in old age is 100% irrelevant. No 50/60/70+ year old is out there at the bar trying to hook up with young chicks, only to be thwarted by their damn sagging tattoos.
