Our internet here in Aus is generally terrible. I'm paying $60 a month for a service that frequently drops out for 2-5 seconds, with speeds randomly changing between 0.5 - 10 Mbps.
The national broadband network rollout plan doesn't hit my area for another 18 months and even then I've been told it may not be much better. I'm near a major city.
