Is Sean Strickland the only UFC guy who goes harder in sparring than he does in an actual fight?

Sean may seem more intense in training but that's accentuated by his mouth always running. In fights, it isn't the same. He's more calculated and he should be considering the stakes involved for him monetarily (win bonus, better pay and escalating pay scale with consecutive wins). If both Hermansson and Hall cannot force him into a disadvantageous spot in a fist fight because they're not good enough to get him into a bad spot, why should he push forward recklessly into a different range to put himself in trouble? He fights at that range and looks to control distance for a reason.

I would also like to mention that both Hall and Hermansson who are his biggest wins are good fighters and the better the competition, the harder it is to get a finish. I think it's more impressive that he basically pitched a shutout against both.

Haha, I don't know if you or I read the other's tone wrong, but I'm with you 100%. I was saying that this last fight was pretty boring, but by no means poorly fought by Sean. To the contrary, as you say, he's fighting elite level guys now, and has to cross his t's and dot his i's, and I get that. I also think (read: hope) that his psycho killer shtick is. . . just a shtick. I've suspected for a long time that he does it out of insecurity (and because he's a bit dumb). Again, I hope.

Why take any risks when your opponent can't force you into any dangerous spots? Sean has comfortably won his last few fights. That's a good thing. Props to him.

Yeah I mean that's great if you're not selling yourself as a wild man who claims he loves brawling, wants to bleed and wants to murder an opponent in the cage. When you say all that shit, you look kinda dumb point fighting out there.

Ah, the Heavies, where ignorant casuals like to shite on fighters after they win.

Fooking good.

Nothing ignorant about it. We have a guy in Strickland who talked insane shit about wanting to literally kill an opponent in the cage and it would make him "super happy", that he's this wild psychopath guy who has no fear and just wants to go out there and make war... and then he fights like that? He needs to be called out on all that fake edge lord shit.

You fell for it, lol.

I mean what the hell was that? Leading up to the fight we're seeing all these videos of him sparring hard and fearlessly, screaming at teammates to brawl with him. We're hearing all these stories about what a maniac he is, how he's constantly going hard all the time in training... and then in the main event of a UFC event he suddenly thinks he's Larry Holmes and fights like that? WTF? Massive let down after all the momentum he had going.

Seems like you're safer actually fighting the guy then you are having a friendly spar with him.
Strickland would be the first person to agree with you. He said just as much during the post-fight press conference, and apologised to his fans for fighting "like a pussy". He knew right off the bat that he was more skilled than Jack, so all he had to do was not let Jack take him down, keep it on the feet, and he would win easily on points. He wanted to get past Jack, and fighting conservatively rather than taking big risks would give him the best chance of winning. But it made for a boring fight, and Strickland realised after the fight that he doesn't want that to be his legacy, and promised to be more savage next time. Let's see.

I usually agree with you, but this is bullshit. He needs to stop running his mouth if he keeps going after decisions. Hermansson had nothing for him and Strickland decided to play it safe. He acts like a savage when he spars, he acts like a savage in interviews and then he becomes a point fighter for 5 rounds. He's a paper tiger.

It's all for show. I think that is as obvious as it is that he's skilled.

Yeah all that talk about killing people and dude jabbed his way to a boring split decision without any agression, save for his let's go bitch taunting at the last seconds of the fight.
Fuck that guy.

It's almost as if "training footage" is leaked online to make you seem great.

And no, it's not "fake" to do so.
IDK, the overall out of octagon stuff must fit with actual octagon facts. You can't pretend to be a cannibal on the loose and fight safe like that.

Well he's not calculating the risk/reward properly because these types of performances aren't going to get him more money. These are the types of fights where he needs to make a statement. Once his current win streak comes to an end he's going to be forgotten about.

Normally I agree with this, but normally we don't have fighters who market themselves as "wanting to kill their opponents."

The psycho thing is nothing more than a gimmick I think.

Probably a nice dude in real life, seems like a good corner man too.
