Is Sam alvey trolling with "smiling?"

It would be awesome if he would smile during a fight while beating someone down or getting beaten down. I remember 10+ years ago when mayhem was getting destroyed by gsp, he got up at the end of the round laughing while blood was leaking everywhere from his head. I thought it was nuts but alvey isn't like that. He smiles during face-offs and weigh ins not during violence. Is this the worst gimmick since the shockmaster? Is he trolling with this or does he think smiles will fill the seats?
