That fight was absolutely terrible.

Imagine if the NFL put on a high school junior varsity game in the middle of the schedule with other pro games. That is what a LOT of wmma looks like to me.

And now that includes title fights, because tonight's fight along with that Carla vs Rose embarrassment were both recent title fights.

The trouble is the UFC have always viewed it as a marketing gimmick and has never made much serious investment in talent.

I can’t hate, she had an opportunity based on circumstances and she made the most of it. She’s basically the Jan of that division. A dominate GOAT champ vacates and a couple of randoms get the title fight. Shes payed her dues in the sport so it’s cool to see her rewarded even if she’s transitional / a placeholder. I always admired her durability she’s a tank.

That said, Germaine De Randemie will always go down as the worst champion in my book. Won the belt with some of the dirtiest late hits (twice), then literally ran away from the belt because she was afraid to fight Cyborg whomst the weight class was literally made for.

Its this kind of sexism which allows the UFC to get away with a low standard, the divisions can be justified purely as anti sexism.

Again though I think the issue is womens MMA would need serious money put into it to draw in talent, especially from sports like Judo and the UFC are not willing to do that.

One more win and she is tied with most wins by a female fighter in UFC with Nunes and if she has a successful defence next, she also leapfrogs likes of Tate and Holm on the BW championship leaderboard.Sometimes you do not have to be particularly great to achieve greatness.

Montano had a 66% win percentage when she won the belt. At least at that point the UFC wasn’t quite sure what they had. She at least passed the eye test . We know we are going to get a bad product so it’s more ok when they are good looking. And Raquel had shown us for 10 years she’s not fun. Not her personality, not her fighting, not anything. And she doesn’t seem to care. Never seems to come in in any better shape and doesn’t show new wrinkles.

I feel bad for her. She climbed to the top of the mountain only for the mountain to be a steaming pile of turd (i.e. her division).

She reached the absolute pinnacle of her sport and it's meaningless.

And in her defense she seemed well aware of this after she got the belt.

The only reason she's champion is because Nunes left. It's not like Nunes retired because she was washed, she could easily come back.
