Is Poatan the most liked and respected fighter on sherdog?

Not really a lot of reason to hate him other than being a hardcore Izzy fan.

He's down to earth, cool and calm, doesn't add obnoxious in a sport that is overflowing with fake fighters forcing a personality. His fights are fun, he has scary power and produced some memorable highlights.

I'm expecting Poatan to move up to LHW win or lose. Seems these weight cuts are just too much and his run at MW really was aimed at Izzy since he had those to wins over him. Him and his team knew the UFC would push him to the title rather quickly.

Also doesn't help that MW isn't overflowing with fresh and exciting contenders currently. Kinda the same faces for years now.

Poatan is certainly a unique fighter, with power as a kickboxer that would put even a heavyweight to shame.

The only gripe I have against him is that he's definitely a LHW that has the willpower to cut all the way down to MW, but if controversies regarding weight cutting are taken into account then it means that other fighters should be freely be allowed to cut as much weight as possible, even allowing IVs if needed.

As of right now, Pereira is by far the largest fighter for a specific weight class that the roster has seen in a long time, and that's more or less due to how much weight the guy cuts in the lead-up to a weigh-in.

Other than 1 poster, I haven’t seen anybody hating or disrespecting him. People seem to only have nice things to say. Guess it comes with beating up a personality like Izzy

No Sherbros just hate Izzy.

They instantly become fans of all his opponents

hard to hate

- comes from a tribal / isolated people
- looks like a killer
- overcame alcohol addiction
- glory double champ
- his trolling of izzy is hilarious, checked his ego
- he doesn't point fight... goes for the finish.

He's liked because he stole the 0 of Adesanya who's got a lot of haters. If he loses the rematch, these people would disown him and say he was never that good considering his zero ground skills and wrestling.
Jan is the one who did that and it did not come with the same fanfare.

true. but that was a boring fight and people throw up the excuse jan was bigger (not really an excuse since izzy was cocky and didn't take time to bulk properly)

I like alex a lot. After seeing his debut and hearing about the hype I looked into his glory career and was highly entertained. He's got a great story overcoming his alcohol addiction, stoic personality, fun trolling skills and comes to fight everytime. Dethroned Izzy, And the guy walks out to bloody sepultura.

I'm not delusional enough to think he can't be beat and I honestly don't care If he loses, I'm not that fickle. Definitely has his detractors on here though.

Current active fighter maybe. Perhaps Jiri.

All time I think it's Fedor.

the public opinion is on his side but dont trip, once people start to dislike him all his cringe antics obsessing/following Izzy will backfire.

He's definitely not respected "the most," but he is still very much appreciated. He's a killer who fights often, which would usually be enough to win fans over.

He was brought in to fight Izzy, but he still had to win a few fights in the UFC to get there. There was some very favorable matchmaking, yes, but he still should have lost to everybody he fought, theoretically.

He had the best debut year in UFC history (probably) and made me a fan.

And The UFC loves him, too. Their big master plan wasn't to have him win the title. It was just to have him fight Izzy. To get one good PPV out of him. And, now, they've already gotten at least two out of him.

Fans are fickle for everyone, especially a guy who got a lot of fans because of Izzy. If he didn’t, people would talking about most undeserving title shots ever and similar things. But all that aside, he looks like a nice guy in his private life.

I like the story. Dude is literally from a tribe in the rain forest. He’s an absolute killer in the ring.
