Is mma judging flawed, corrupt or incompetent?

I genuinely watch almost every single fight every weekend. At least prelims and main.

Kai was -700 live odds in rd5 and he won that rd.

I guess maybe there are equal robberies, but there can’t be worse cause in my view there is no argument for an Albazi win so you can’t have a worse robbery

I watch every fight as well, but watching them and understanding how they're judged are two different things.

That live line is just a reflection of what bettors are doing to move lines and how the bookies see the fight. Live odds mean absolutely nothing. 90% of my income comes from gambling. If you're using live odds to determine who is winning then you are doing it completely wrong.

There is an argument for an Albazi win if you actually understand how the judges are scoring fights, especially ones like Lee and Sal. It's all visuals. I explain it more in the post above yours. I've had some big wins doing live bets and predicting these sorts of so called "robberies".

I was done betting for the day but there was no way in hell I would have touched Kai late as I thought there was a huge chance visuals were going to decide rounds 1 and 2.

All three.

Also, they watch cageside. Don't have the screen like 99.9999% of viewers. Def skews things more than most ppl even consider

First and foremost, it's flawed. Modified 10 point must boxing system just isn't working.

Before u guys defend the actual fight…i wanna say had no dog in the kara-france albazi fight. Could care less about either guy. So this isnt a complaint on the particular fight, but a question about ufc judging on the whole.

This stuff has been happening for far too long and nobody has done anything to change it.

it has to be 3 things:

1. the rules of how they judge is flawed as it leads to way too much controversial or bad decisions.

2. corruption, are judges just paid to give certain fighters wins or are they betting or telling their associates to bet and getting a cut.

3. The judges are just incompetent and don’t know how to score fights?

It has to be one of those things, right?
Why can’t it be all three? In some cases none of the above and fan bias dictates public opinion. Sometimes the judges could just be dumb. Sometimes corrupt but at times dumb seems pos. Also throw in the scoring criteria being subjective it’s an impossible task to answer

It's far too subjective.

I think the solution is 2 judges and stats. The judges score the round and now that we have stat tracking come up with a point system similar to all of the fantasy games out there. Person with the most points per round wins the round for the "stat judge"
If you had a stat judge you would see a fully new version of point fighting you would not enjoy... I'd win every fight on my bike with 300 jabs and low impact leg kicks

Well that's part of the problem. Fighters need to know who the judges are and fight according to how they score. Which shouldn't be, cause they all follow the same criteria. Also, I wouldn't say these guys are particularly consistent other than favoring the 'ufc guy'. Lol

So if its all 3. Then the system itself is a disaster, why hasn’t anything been done.

Ummm because it’s a billion dollar industry that’s just as fucked and corrupt as boxing and mothafuckas get paid and live comfortably? Not to be a condescending dick but you should know these things brudda

Well then, i guess u should make a thread about how corrupt ufc is and lets see how many sherdoggers agree with the obvious

Yeh, it's a massive problem, but it's basically normal at this point. Good chance you'll get at least 2 out of 3 judges who favor visuals over everything else.

They actually are pretty consistent. I was taking note of it for a while to help with gambling. It's crazy that some of these dudes are judging MMA haha. It happens a lot though. Sometimes you'll just see it in some random round. It gets more attention when it decides a close 5 round main event like this one though.

It is obviously 1. The rules are open to much interpretation. It is isn't like other sports where the rules aren't subjective. Even over my time watching I have seen the way the judging is applied changed.

Finding a way to provide clearer weighting to actions would be great.

This first post could have just ended the thread.

It's flawed because the rules have way too much leeway to be interpreted differently from judge to judge.
It's corrupt because you have insane decisions and scores that make absolutely no sense, they're clearly shady.
And it's incompetence because there are times where the announcers will point out that a judge isn't even watching the fight, just looking at their phone or talking to someone else.
