but i keep hearing john anik creaming his pants about how max threw 700+ strikes against calvin
doesn't that just mean max is a pillow fisted fighter? when you dominate a guy 10-8 every round, doesn't it mean that you're just playing it safer than GSP?

Max is not a KO artist. He'll ruin you over the whole fight.

He's not playing it safe, he just doesn't have the power to KO. He gets TKO but it's because they stop the fight because they are just covering up and getting hit repeatedly without trying to fight back, not because they go out or get dropped. That's why a move to LW isn't a good idea for him, it was proven vs Dustin but his lack of punching power will make it very difficult for him in LW where everyone is going to be more durable and even stronger. He can't use his strengths in LW because the LW's are used to getting hit harder so they will be walking through his punches just like Dustin did. He can't use his volume to win fights because they will break his combos by walking through punches and delivering their own harder strikes which will affect Max more than Max's punches affect them. Plus with extra weight he will become even slower with his movement and strikes. In the fight vs Dustin his punches looked a lot slower and the punching power difference was very obvious.

When earlier in the night he stopped a fight as a guy was shooting for a takedown. Herb sucks.

I was fine with the fight continuing. He didn't drop and he was fighting back. The fight you talked about the guy got dropped so it's completely different scenario. If Kattar got dropped at any moment in that round it would've been called off.

Kattar has never been dropped in his career. His only stoppage loss was a sub when he was in his early 20s fighting a much more experienced opponent in Elite XC.

I previously knew about this, and reading it still threw me for a loop. EliteXC seems like an absolute lifetime ago.

Max finished Pettis by strikes which nobody has done in 3 weight classes ever the TKO against Tony was towel throw for an injury? He finished Aldo with strikes twice which is impressive. He embarrassed Kattar and Ortega like no other.

Todorovic got knocked down three times in the same round. He was done. Weakly grabbing onto Soriano's ankles doesn't change that.

I actually think it's more impressive to beat the shit out of someone for every second of a 25 minute fight, than it is to load up and land a big KO shot on someone in the 1st. That fight left zero doubt at all that Max is the far superior fighter and beats Kattar 100/100 times. It's not all about the finish

If defending yourself is just putting your hands up, missing every single shot, having your back against the cage and eating about 30-40 strikes in a minute, offering ineffective and useless offense while you're a punching bag? Sure. Calvin didn't drop three times but he was rocked that many in that round. It should have been stopped.
