Does he know enough about fighting? What is his best area of expertise?

Eh?

I'd say his bjj and fighting experience are the best assets he could bring as a coach.

He is Iaquinta's coach. I believr he gives good motivation to his fighters during the fight. Before the last round of Iaquinta vs Lee he said "5 minutes of hell Al". It was awesome.

Matt Serra is about as much of a MMA veteran as anyone could be. Of course he knows a lot about MMA.

He's been a BJJ instructor and gym owner for years. He's well accomplished and respected in BJJ and has trained and trained under a who’s who of the sport.

Also, obligatory gif for your shit thread:

Was Firaz good enough? Most great coaches weren’t great fighters.

Some are better coaches than fighters

Belichick is the best nfl coach ever and he wasn’t a star player

He's got Sterling, Al, and weidman

So....yeah?

He was a good fighter and he is a good coach. Also even if he wasn't a good fighter that wouldn't mean shit when it comes to being a coach. Greg Jackson knows his shit and is one of the best coaches. Guess what? He didn't fucking fight. So yeh i'd say that Matt Serra has enough "fight knowledge". Dumb question.
