Might sound weird since he is 42 but this is the first time in his career he is dedicated fully to the sport other than when he won the K1 and he is finally at peace mentally. His body might not be in it's prime anymore but his increased training discipline and improved technique and accuracy he displayed in his last few fights more than make up for it

oh thank you, a non-conor thread.

on topic - not really in prime but it's HW, you can be good there for a while with a solid punch and a good chin.

well, he got a new nutrutionist. he does not cut weight anymore (crazy for heavyweight to cut weight lol).
this is what made the biggest difference in Hunt's eyes. according to him, he is in better shape to fight a 5 rounder now.

Physical prime? Not even close. MMA skill and technique prime? Most definitely.

His TDD and negative BJJ is a lot better than it was a few years ago.

It still isn't good enough to hang with the top 5-7 (those of them who use TDs) but it has improved a lot. I think Stipe kind of took him by surprise.

Just like Rocky Balboa, " All the Hunt team is concentrating on creating is some HURTING BOMBS!"

Shots so hard they will rattle their ancenstors.

wasn't he in a pretty bad place before the stipe fight?

Although Hunt is much improved in techinque and overall mma ability, it might be unwise to say he's in his "Prime". At the least he is a great gatekeeper, at best a belt condender. Would love to see him fight Black Beast, Shawn Jordan or Magomedv.

Not physical prime, he used to move alot better 10 years ago but his mind, skill and technique is better than its ever been so hes a better fighter now than back then even though his body isnt as good.

Hunt vs Black Beast would be epic

You're exponentially removed from your prime by the pound. Mark Hunt's prime was when he was 16.

No. He has lost speed and his chin is still great but has taken damage.

Hunt was a beast in Pride, The problem was that after Pride went away he admitted that he lost motivation and stopped training. He would show up out of shape just for the pay checks. When he finally started training full time again he started winning again,

He wasted his prime by not training seriously and conditioning himself properly. But he is probably the best version of Hunt there has been right now.

No, I think his prime was during Pride, he's fighting smarter now than he used to though. His wrestling has always been good but he's been too willing in the past to go to the ground with the better sub-grappler. He's slower, less versatile standing and has a weaker chin than he used to. I don't think he's far from his prime though as he's improved his fight IQ while he's physically deteriorated.

People put way too much importance on this shit. who gives a fuck? can he get the fuckin job done still? YES

He is still a fav fighter to watch but not a real title challenger. Love the dude big time! Fuck the conor threads!

It's incredibly inspiring to see how he was on the road to becoming a Bob Sapp jobber, but one loss to a nobody and the UFC offering to buy out his contract so he could go away woke his competitive spirit up and caused him to reinvent himself. If that's not one of the best comeback stories ever, then I don't know what is.
