I mean, the guy just can't get any momentum going or catch a break. It's not because he sucks, in fact you watch the guy fight and he looks to be a vicous beast capable of being at the top of the division and once even a prospect for the title picture.
Yet his UFC record stands at and underwhelming 3-5-0(1) .
But of course, they did not give Lombard an easy run in the UFC. They went straight to feeding him to the wolves, being another wolf himself. However, all his losses do have similar circumstances, in that in many of his fights he almost finished his opponent but ended up gassing or getting caught later on. He always looks very strong, almost unstoppable early on, then succumbs to some sort of defeat afterwards. Or, like his first two losses in the UFC he was granted with split decision losses in which he was very close to winning.
But he also has defeated Palhares, Marquardt in devastating fashion as well as UD'ing Jake Shields. Also a win over Burkman, but ruled NC after failed drug testing- which could be a reason for his recent losses some would speculate. However, as I said before, he almost finished the guys that finished HIM.
All these factors lead me to conclude, his resume is very deceiving. His future opponents should not overlook this at all. And while he did look to be more patient in the Hendo fight, he still has that absolute killer instinct that when in the right moments has the potential to finish anybody in the division.
So what do you think? Do you think he will move past this string of losses and go on to live up to his true potential? Or just be one of those dnagerous, "flip a coin" sort of dudes that look like champions some fights and are laying on the mat for 5 minutes the next.
