Is Lewis- Klitchko the most consistently high intense box fight of all time?

What were these guys on? Zero self preservation. Non-stop aggression. Hearns-Hagler is another example but that was just a few rounds. This one is much longer.

Lewis got by on that one without his heart being in it for training. He retired at the right time.

Yea. Lewis was lucky that got stopped. Vitali was getting the better of the exchanges.

That wasn't was the thread was supposed to be about

Im thinking it was more one sided. Vitali had far better output in that fight.

been a while since I watched the fight, but as far as I remember the tide was definitely turning in the last couple of rounds. Lewis landing his uppercut at will and Vitali needed 60 stiches in his face and mouth. the stoppage was correct but im fairly confident Lewis would've won the fight had it not been stropped at that point

I haven't watched it in ages and all I can remember is being terrified Lewis was going to lose until the stoppage.

VITALI was nearly blinded
I watched that live mate. All I can remember is having a sense of relief when they stopped it due to that cut. But vitali was deffo up on the score cards and looked to be the one putting in more work in relation to your post. Ill have to watch it again but i was genuinely shitting myself.

I think a lot of people remember Vitali getting the better of the exchanges, which he did, but Lewis was finding his feet in the last couple of rounds, and landing the bigger shots over again. no doubt Lennox was down on the cards but there was plenty of rounds left. people still claim that it was a bullshit stoppage but how many fighters can continue with the damage that Vitali had. lewis should've retired before that fight imo, his head was no longer in the game, but still managed to get away with it

You guys remember it wrong. It was very close

I agree it was far closer than many will credit, but as far as I remember Vitali definitely got the better of the exchanges until the last round and a half. Lewis was finding a home for his uppercut over again hence Vitali needing so many stitches in his mouth as well as his face. Vitali was rightfully up on the scorecards but I think he was getting stopped by the 9th

Im gonna watch this fight tonight, its been far too long

Yeah Lewis was starting to gain momentum in the fight, I could see it going his way if the fight continued but Vitali was ahead on points.

I've just rewatched it for the most part. I guess youre kinda right. I think at the time I was expecting much more from Lewis and maybe that blinkered my perception of it. It's pretty interesting to watch these things back way after the fact and when the hype isn't there.

People tend to look at the cards stating how lucky Lewis was? It’s lazy, if people watch the fight again, Lewis imo was starting to take over, but he took some punishment in those first few rounds. And there was no doubt it was stopped at the correct time. Even an unmotivated Lewis beat vitali, which is pretty damn impressive

I'm not so sure it's luck when you continue to land your punches. Maybe he was lucky Vitaly's skin cut, but that was a well earned stoppage, he had his face falling apart.
