Is Judo effective in a streetfight?

LMAO @ tae kwon do being better for street fighting than judo, seriously dude what planet do you live on??

Dude there are some pussy ass taekwondo schools out there, but there are also really tough tae kwon do schools out there. The one im at has produced dozens and dozens of provincial champs/national champs in wtf tae kwon do. There are 140 pound guys in that club that kick like mules and would end a street fight brutally and fast. My Judo sensi back in his competing days wasn't very good. He doubled out at all the regional and provicnial tournaments. I have reached my max potential at that club years ago. Im not learning anything new. I figure why train with him when I can train tae kwon do with guys who have won nationals and faught on the Canadian national team and medalled at the world championships.

This is really happening.

Judo is just more primal. And has subs to boot.

The rest works on fellas that you prolly woulda beat anyway. All due respect as I am aware that half the fight is looking good. Absolutely.

If you are consistantly ko'ing people on the street with kicks or punches, you hafta fight a tuffer crowd. It isnt mma. And really martial arts don't mean shit.:icon_lol: You know that tho.

+1 to referencing the uchi mata against the shoplifter thread.

Also, props to the posts pointing out "real" TKD's effectiveness. Too many TUF-newbies thinking that "MMA pwns all traditional MAs" while failing to realize where MMA roots came from.

Ishii would smash the olympic TKd champ in a MMA match if both get the same amount of MMA training

Even though I practice BJJ, but i prefer Judo for street defense.

Game then you mean eh?

Either/or really. +1 judo for the impact and +1 bjj for the distance. The tech will virtually be the same there in a scrap. As also with a wrestlers. Seems cheap but thats the truth. I'll take judo over wrestling and only because it will look better. And, that is why we fight.:icon_lol:

if some fool ever tries to get me in a headlock or some other brutish grappling form, he's getting thrown on his head via my namesake.

Hmm I dunno, even after all the comments... still judo seems ineffective to me, compared to wrestling. Maybe for street fighting where you wanna stay standing and just take the other guy down... but for mma, wrestling is in my opinion better.

Again... maybe if judo had wrestling rules, but used a gi... I would find it the same or even more effective (than wrestling). I just dont like all the ippon talk and I dont understand how somebody can find it that much fun to get a nice throw - me personally I feel much better when I win a tough scramble off a single leg on the mat.

Disagree. I wrestled before I did Judo, and osotogari'ing a guy through the mats is 1000x more satisfying than a single leg TD: its quicker, more forceful, and much less exhausting.

None of those rules will make a diff in a fight. Its the reflex that is built around those rules. And on that hairline call...what the hell....judo. Since were just partying here.

I did ask a fella(a hundred questions) that was ranked 3rd in the world in judo and 4th in the world in freestyle wrestling, in the same year, same weight, who would win. 1973 tho.

I think you're thinking that judoka just arent tuff.:icon_lol: Zero in on some tuff ones and find out. If there is one white crow...

I mean, is there really anyone that can hang with a wrestler? Yup. He's a tricky fella:icon_lol:

Canadian...u havent heard it

there are no tough tae kwon do schools, olympic tae kwon do champs would get their ass handed to them in an nhb match by by any judoka olympian (in the gi or street clothes), its a point sparring art and i have yet to meet a single tae kwon do (if thats his only art) guy i'd be nervous to fight

you either go to the single worst judo club in canada or you're just mildly retarded

honestly this is what most tae kwon do fighters look like... no wlets say one of these deadly blackbelts walks into a judo dojo and challenges one of their BB to a match to prove tae kwon do's self defense effectiveness...

this happens

and after they wake up, in hospital, they realise that 360 spinning roundhouse kicks really aren't very good for teh fighting

fuck tae kwon do, its like the poster child for fucked up, watered down TMA's

deadly ass throw. love it.

I haven't seen that throw since the Rock n' Roll Express used it to beat Ivan Koloff and Krusher Khrushchev for the NWA title.

probably one of the few judo techniques which require brute strength to execute. but when it lands, it lands.

no it doesn't, sure judo attracts a wide range of participants from a variety of backgrounds and all ages, but it DOES NOT hand out blackbelts to 9yr olds... tae kwon do is so watered down and full of fkn bullshit its horrible, a quick google search and you can find hundreds of TKD blackbelts who are physically incapable of fighting at any reasonable level due to either being children, incredibly obese or just so unathletic its painful

If you think that ura nage REQUIRES brute strength, you need to do a lot more practicing.

I sure wish you'd stop posting ignorant shit about Judo. Really, I do.
