Is Jon Jones a psychopath?

This totally isn't even close to fighter bashing.

According to Jones' nuthuggers, he doesn't actually have any true haters, they are either racists or jealous or irrational; of course its nothing to do with his attitude or behavior. It is against the rules to evoke his name without glorious anecdotes about his successes. He tried cocaine, just once.

Since Daniel Cormier recently said he believes so, I wanted to ask Sherdog and see what Sherdog's opinion on the matter is.

A psychopath is generally considered to be someone who suffers from one of the psychopathic (cluster-b) personality disorders which are Antisocial Personality Disorder, Narcissistic Personality Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder.

All three disorders have the "lack of empathy" symptom, which is why they are considered psychopathic/sociopathic.

Hundreds of thousands of people have these disorders, it doesn't make them killers. Serial killers and violent offenders only make up a small percentage of these people. But most psychopaths, although don't have empathy, still wouldn't kill someone obviously.

All psychopaths have a much higher IQ than the average person but usually don't put it to use.
However, if we compare to serial killers,

- Most serial killers have antisocial personality disorder.
- Certain cases they may have the other two. Some major examples are Ted Bundy (Narcissistic Personality) and Jeffrey Dahmer (Borderline Personality).
- Its possible to have more than one. Serial killer, Andrei Chikatilo was diagnosed with ALL THREE psychopathic disorders.

Jones seems somewhat of a Narcissist. I would guess NPD with Borderline traits. His self destructive behavior, reckless acts, damaging acts, prone to violence, prone to angry, short fuse, etc. Classic NPD / Borderline Personality.

You can dislike him for any reason your choose. He's still GOAT.

nah, he is just a wild guy in his early 20's with bucket loads of cash failing miserably at upholding a good public image, Rory McDonald on the other hand, 100% psycho

Have him do The Hare Exam, then we'll have an idea.

- Here's a version of the test based on The Hare Test. I did the test when doing my Crim degree years ago, I scored a 8. http://vistriai.com/psychopathtest/

The "right" answer would seem obvious. I would think a real psychopath would just lie throughout these tests. Makes me wonder how these "doctors" diagnose "psychopath" and similar illnesses.

I did find it interesting that in his interview with Helwani, when talking about his accident and the pregnant woman in the other car, Jones said that at the time he was worried about his career and going to jail. He did not express concern about the woman and her unborn child beyond the impact their injuries may have on him.

I don't want to make any diagnoses, but I would have thought most people would at least acknowledge the suffering of the other party and their family, rather than looking at an accident like that purely selfishly.

This.

It's plain as day right in front of you.

Absolutely no empathy expressed and he fails to realize that there's anything wrong with what he's saying.

Jon is at least narcissistic.

He's the black Dexter.

But in all seriousness it would probably be Rory or Lawler. They're both nuts and Rory lives in Florida.

I think hes got a massive ego and fiercely competitive and thats it haha,

But those are both psychopathic traits.

Not everyone who has a massive ego and is fiercely competitive is a sociopath, but every sociopath has a massive ego and is fiercely competitive.

Absolutely neither one of those guys display sociopathic traits. Both seem genuinely humble and empathetic guys who enjoy fighting.

I don't understand people calling Rory or Robbie socios. Why? When has either of these guys hurt anyone outside the cage or displayed a lack of empathy?

What are you even basing that those guys are sociopaths off of?

I feel like a good 30% of our society anymore could qualify as Narcissistic.

It is true. I am a Master's level therapist at a prison, and sit in team conference with the doctors who make the diagnoses every day, I think I have a little more background than this article. I am talking diagnostic criteria from the DSM. Look up Antisocial personality in the DSM.

Not a Jones fan but I think you're reading to far into this.

Who cares his a great fighter and that's all that matters to anyone but his friends and family.

We don't really use the word psychopath any more.
It was used in reference to ASPD.

Someone with NPD is a narcissist.

It would be ridiculous to refer to someone with BPD as a psychopath, which is what you are suggesting.

You left out HPD, from this cluster.

All these disorders are much more common than most people are aware of.
People with BPD can often tell they have a problem.
I prefer to see it as a spectrum...all ASPD are also narcissists. ASPD is like the "black belt" so of course you already also have the brown belt and purple belt.

Regarding Jones, I have no idea. Would need to know him. All I know so far is that he does NOT seem like a nice guy.
I would guess that fighters generally suffer from more problems than the gen pop.

As for those of you saying it has to be diagnosed by a shrink, I disagree. A person close to Jones would know better than a psychologist, because they would see how Jones behaves. A true ASPD or NPD is highly unlikely to sit on a couch and admit what they have done to a psychologist.

Hes just a narcissist. You would be too.

You might want to research the subject in more detail first. The exam is generally used as part of psychological assessment AFTER a criminal is caught. Approx 10% of the population falls into the sociopath/psychopath category. Very few actually go onto killing like their well known counterparts, such as Dalmer, Bundy, etc. You will find a lot of them on Wall Street and high up in Corporations though (and yes, a lot in up in the military as well). In addition to this exam other assessments aid in identifying psychopathy, such as stimuli responses. This measures reaction on a physiological level. Psychopaths are often called "flat liners" due to having very little response in their RAS system (this is a whole subject on its own, nature vs nuture). You can't fake it. Finally a diagnosis of psychopathy actually benefits him or her in the criminal justice system. For the record Dalmer, Bundy, Gacy all tested in the 30's.
