Rumored Is it true that the Giant Taekwondo Olympian was cut from the UFC because Olympians cost more?

you hear weigh bully all the time. Reach bully is a term that needs to get used more and Despaigne is a prime example.

... Jon Jones too.

Brain swap them into whatever the average height and reach is for their weight class and do they even crack the top 15?
There are tall guys who are not able to use their reach to Jones level

this doesnt make any sense....everyone's body is shaped differently. and if they had "average height and reach" then they would fight differently.

I mean your hypothetical question is bizzare. Would Despaigne crack the top 15 if he was average height? He didn't crack the top 15 as a taller fighter already, so doesn't that disprove your theory?

Rottweiler owners response to pitbull owners pound for pound is that a rottie is not a rottie anymore if it's shrunk to a pitbull.

its not a rocket science hypothetical. Is there some actual skill there or are they being carried by huge physical advantages? IF you brain transplant jon jones into a 70s inch reach six foot 1 ish frame, how does he do? Would he do well or was he just being carried by having a 9001 light year reach advantage over his opponents? Would his technical knowledge be enough to succeed or did most of his success come from size bullying people? Would he peak rank 5, 10, or still become champ anyway? We already know roids helped carry him somewhat. How would he have done if he never juiced and was 6 foot 1 ish, 70s inch reach?

this was mostly a jon jones question obviously. Despaigne is an afterthought. We already know he's trash and a reach bully. The guy would be winless in karate combat if he had a 70ish reach, 6 foot 1ish frame. Doubtful he'd be an olympian either.

That's what I thought, can strike and is huge but can't grapple to save his life. I wonder what karate combat pays, you have any clue?
No idea. He's the HW champion though, so presumably it pays better than being a random unranked UFC fighter.

I think he had potential if he improved his grappling & especially focused on his takedown defense.

It was still kickass how he came in and won his debut in 18 seconds; which was the length of his last three bouts combined.

Honestly, I would still rather tune in to watch him fight rather than some of the unathletic bums in the HW division, despite him being a can on the ground. At least he was exciting while standing. But yeah, getting taken down by strikers was a bit embarrassing.

He's 37 years old

True but it is at heavyweight & I think his losses were more due to his lack of grappling skills. He still seems very athletic. Father Time generally is much less forgiving at lighter weight classes.

That being said he's really suited towards Karate Combat & should probably stay there if he doesn't want to cross-train in grappling.

The lack of grappling was obviously an issue, but I think the real problem was the complete lack of even trying to stand up. It's not that he couldn't do it, it's that it seemed like it wasn't even an option.
