the problem is it favors front runners who don't have to focus on endurance. tough fighters who endure punishment as part of their strategy will automatically lose lots of their fights and so would a lot of slow starting endurance fighters.

Why not just make all matches 5 rounders, including the prelims (5 minutes each)? That way the UFC can really test which fighters are contender/championship material or just journeyman material that's eventually going to be turned into a tomato can somewhere down the line.

For the championship rounds, make rounds 10 minutes each.

Your guy lost, he deserved to lose, you don't clown around the first two rounds and start taking a championship fight seriously only when you get dropped for the first time. He gave away the first two rounds to Kamaru on a silver platter.

That's an argument for making fights 7, 8, 9, 10, 15, 20 rounds.

If fighters know ahead of time that to win they need to be the first to win three rounds, game plans will change accordingly. It won't stop close rounds from ever happening. But imagine the first round is close, both fighters will come out like mad men in the second. And both will come out like mad men in the third because the loser of the second feels he needs to win while the winner of the second feels he needs to secure the win.

Fighting its not a "ball sport", fights can end in 1 minute or have no action for 25 minutes, same goes for those final minutes when finishes have happened.
