Is it safe to wear my wedding ring while rolling?

my ring hasn't come off in the 5 years we've been married. only at tournaments because they have a fit about it.

it's just a band and just barely fits my finger. no problems so far.

I don't take it off for lifting either, but my buddy does (who doesn't take it off for rolling)

I've worn my wedding ring for every single minute of practice and competition time.

I've never really thought about it.

I'm wondering the same thing. I just got married about a week ao and have worn my ring a few times on the may with no problems. I've been advised not to wear it because of it getting caught on things (my ring is loose because I have narrow fingers but huge joints) and also if the finger gets broken and swells they would have to cut it off. My buddy also mentioned he knows some guys who had the skin of their finger ripped off by the ring getting caught on a fence (they were cops hopping a fence in pursuit of people and the ring got caught on the fence). I don't know if the same thing could happen in grappling but I think I'm going to not wear mine in training.

bit late, but congrats!

anyway, i've seen plenty of guys wear their rings at my gym.

i've been scraped across the face and neck by a ring when someone was trying to work their hand into my collar. it sucked. take it off.

i swear some guys act like emo bitches

what do you think is gonna happen if you take your wedding ring off?

the people that think they are too special to respect the rules are usually the ones that chat shit when someone else does something they dont like

what if i wanted to wear my chain while i rolled? its got more of a sentimental value than your wedding ring. if it got caught on something it wouldnt injure anyone it would just break off.

respecting the rules is one thing, but not taking your ring off while youre training is some fairy tale bullshit seriously. that shit might sound cute in front of your wife's friends but youre rolling with a bunch of guys. none of them are gonna try and hit on you if they see you without a ring on lol.

you mean you dont take your ring off and clean the ring regularly? it must be disgusting, and if you do, how comes the evil spirits of betrayal and dishonour dont attack your soul during that window of opportunity. your wife prob takes her ring off to do the dishes. unless you do them lol. be real pls.

but ive got no problems rolling with a guy that is wearing his wedding ring. or if someone is wearing a ring or whatever that doesnt come off or something (someone else already said about putting tape on it). i do think its funny that some guys are that whipped/delusional though about that actual ring.

Depending on the metal you can have the ring smashed on your finger. Then it will have to be cut off. Just take it off. I don't think anybody cares if you are married or not on the mat.

If its a smooth band ring the worst that can happen is that if your finger is broken you will have trouble.

Anything else is a danger to your mates and to you.

I once heard of a basketball girl who had his finger cut off when her finger was caught in the net after a jump.

overreaction much?

I take mine off also. I've worn it, and had it slip off while rolling. Obviously a scary moment, where it's there and then the next thing you know it's gone. Luckily it was underneath us and I found it right away.

With all of the sweat and potential torque and friction from the gi, I don't take any chances anymore.

I don't wear my ring during training. Its dangerous, annoys other people and I don't want other peoples sweat going on the ring.

My ring is also a little loose due to the enlarged joints.

I take mine off every time. My ring has some 'decorative cuts' on it and is a little more jagged than average. Last thing I need is a finger being de-gloved. Wife doesn't care.

Don't wear it during any sport - its a bad idea.

I lost 1 wedding ring playing volleyball at the beach in a tournament because it was hot & it slipped off my finger. I lost another one while surfing. (Yeah I'm a slow learner).

If you wear it while lifting weights (not padded machines) you'll get bigger callouses & more risk of tearing a callous, plus you'll fuck up the finish on the ring.

Breaking a finger with a ring on really sucks. Its more painful & the finger swells more - happen to a buddy of mine during a basketball game. Plus there's about a million different jobs that won't allow jewelry on your fingers while you work.

And don't wear it while grappling for all the reasons already mentioned. Your safety & your teammate's safety are more important.

How's your wife doing?

as a grappling dummy shes great lol "live resistance"

i was taking the piss btw

i thought thered be proper in depth convo by now, talking about the history of bjj and stories of weddings in beaches being invaded. or a flame war of married vs single guys etc not just everyone saying 'nobody gives a crap man' i miss the blue belt gets punched threads

i only wear my power balance bracelet or my power would be all out of balance.

One thing to consider - if you have a tungsten ring, and you break your finger, they will not be able to cut it off. They will have to cut off your finger.

:)

And I had a friend once whose ring got stuck on his finger after jamming it (not in bjj). It was NOT a pretty site, and it was hard as hell for them to cut it off. I would definitely not wear my ring in bjj.

Jewelry is such a stupid thing to wear while doing sports. If your wife is being a nancy about it just tape it up or something.

Would the ring interfere with your grip at all? I can't imagine deadlifting 400+ (not that I can deadlift this much) with a ring on one of my fingers.
