is it ok to take protein powder even if you dont workout that day?

Is it ok to take whey protein or casein like muscle milk even on days when you dont workout?

or is it strictly for when you do workout?

Also, do I have the information correct in taking muscle milk as a preworkout drink, whey as a post workout... and muscle milk before bed?

but my main question is about on days when you dont workout. Or even when youre on say a 4-5 day without a workout... is it ok to make a shake with these powders? if so, which is better?
 
Both Protein is food... Is it ok to eat steak and chicken on nontraining days? Pending on your body type lean or towards obese, that may be the answer to your question. If you workout hard and are lean i would say get as much protein as you can anyway even off days.
 
i'd say im pretty lean... always been fairly skinny even long time ago when I was on a nothing but fast food diet hahaha

im 135lbs, about 5'6 and a half... or 5'7... and 23 years old...

so its safe to have whenever?

I've heard that ingesting protein anytime other than post-training causes cancer.
 
What.... are you kidding me....When I'm not working out or eating real food....It's muscle milk time!!!
 
It's only ok to take protein on non-training days if you snort it. If you take protein and don't train it will kill your liver...unless you snort it....seriously....*snicker*
 
protein suppositories on non-lifting days FTW. It's in Berardi's articles and in Precision Nutrition. Prove me wrong.



On a serious note, I get really hungry the day after lifting sometimes, especially after an ME day. So ya, I eat the protein on non-lifting days. Usually it's in the form of a slurry though. Compost or regular, depends on how I feel.
 
Your body is still in recovery mode, even if you are not lifting that day.
 
If your skinny then eat, take your shake, then go eat again. It wont hurt

things like this makes sherdog useless most of the time. people get agro when a newbie asks questions. people have to be smart asses when all you have to really do is direct the person if you're too full of yourself and don't wanna deal with his questions. drop a link to the homie or something. save your precious energy and fingers if you don't want to deal with us newbies, just a drop a link and keep it moving. no need to be smart asses.

Yes, you should consume your protein needs for lifting/training days and non-lifting/training days as well.
