Is it cheaper for you to do take out or do groceries?

Not even a question, groceries.

When cooking one meal for one person however the time cost can quickly outweigh any savings. At that point it's really got to be a health decision.
Restaurants don't care if you get fat.

My best tip, once a month or so cook a shit tonne of bolonaise sauce and freeze it into single servings. Cheap, lots of veggies make it healthy, and freezes well.
Last batch I made about 40 servings.

Its a good 1.5 hours of work, plus 3 hours of simmering but huge time and money saver, plus healthy.
How big is the pot you use to simmer it?
40servings is a lot..... So you have 40 Tupperware plastic tubs to store all this in your freezer.?

If you buy in bulk like that get a vacuum sealer and freeze everything into portions.

Edited to add that ziploc freezer bags are adequate if you aren't storing for an extended amount of time.
I still do it, but my silly ass cooks for a whole family and then I store leftovers. They go bad, I get take out or dinner with a pair of tits, get heartbroken, go shopping ,and the system repeats.

I been there, done that. Sometimes it seems cheaper to just buy the already made Poke or sushi if you don't have most of the ingredients on hand. I usually have the sushi rice, nori wraps, sushi grade salmon on hand. Just need to buy the cucumber, avocado, and cream cheese ( for my wife )

Sam's Club so I can afford to sit on my yacht in Palm Beach while eating steak and drinking wine.

groceries.

i buy 20lb bag of potatoes for $7, i eat good for quite awhile on that alone. tofu is $2.50 a brick. idk, i eat cheap and hate take out so i think i manage well enough.

What you guys are forgetting to take into account is that most people, almost all the time, end up buying things they didn't plan on buying at the grocery store

This is true. I can totally see our guy @Zer picking up a hooker on his way to get some laundry detergent and hot pockets

Hmm maybe 10L each, I use 2.

Yeap, I have like 40 Ikea small ones which stack nicely when empty.

Groceries easily, as takeaway in the UK is not only very expensive, but greasy as hell.

I'm an awful cook, however, so it's a supersize pizza tonight and leftover pizza for Christmas...

:(

All round yours then ?

It'll be a takeaway tonight ( burgers) and a Christmas dinner tomorrow. Currently peeling potatoes....

Very nice.

My missus is a wonderful cook. She'll be doing the turkey roast on Boxing Day, after I've finished work.

I just have to wait a day or two...

Honestly, I kind of wish that I learned to cook as a kid. Cooking as of late for me has only led to abject failure, and being banned from my own kitchen...

Groceries are cheaper, and cooking yourself is much healthier.

I get those healthy meals mailed to your house weekly thing latley
This is what I do when I'm in the States. 14 meals for 150 dollars. It's high quality and taste great.
