fedor nightnare matchup is mma evolution
what about dj?lets pretend cruz didnt whoop his ass and sent him back to flw.i honestly cant think a single person in flw/bw that is a nightmare matchup for dj,hes just too skilled and well rounded.theres a reason why hardcore fans think hes the p4p best after cruz

A bigger fighter who can outgrapple him. There's no one his size who is on his level.

You guys give Chris Cariaso that rematch and see what he can do.

DJ is clearly ducking him.

In his division... No.

But, I want to see him avenge the loss to Cruz at BW. I’m not sure that actually qualifies as a nightmare match-up, though.

Bigger wrestlers like Cruz have given him trouble, but he also retreats poorly. Rather than stepping one-two steps back and then out, he will often run backwards and back himself up against the fence. So a good wrestler with punishing low kicks is a pretty hard match up for him. Not to hype up the non-fight with Dillashaw, but Dillashaw's exact gameplan that one him the last two roudns against Dominick Cruz, combined with his wrestling game, could certainly give him a hard time.

I don't know if there is a fighter who's naturally a flyweight with that kind of skillset though.

A division with some depth is his nightmare match-up

Or TJ

I think highly skilled fighters who are bigger than him but can still make the cut to 125lb are his nightmare. Guys like TJ and Dominic (if Dom could make 125). A lot of the champs of the new era are big people for their weight class who cut a lot of weight. Conor, Jones, JJ, Khabib, even Holloway said he might not stay at 145 for long. DJ isn’t big for 125, I think he’s been lucky that bigger guys haven’t been cutting to that weight class.

Wilson Reis has what it takes this next time around. He has too many elite wins for the DJ fight not to be a fluke.

No, there are bigger guys who would give him a fight for sure, but we cannot count him out, no one can be labeled a nightmare match up unless they're in too high a weight-class to be considered a legit match up.
The guy has it all.

I don't think you can classify those guys as nightmares for MM.
They have a rather large size advantage but they're competitive fights no matter who wins.

Exactly. A bigger lay-n-prayer, because DJ lights them up on the feet, and they have to resort to beta level panic wrestling.

I thought Henry cejudo was going to give him a tough fight. Tj should be good, wonder how tj is going to do without a speed advantage.

True, but you couldn’t say anyone is a nightmare for Jones or GSP (at his prime) either. Especially not Gus or Hendricks. Tough fights for them yes, but they both still got the win. So I assumed by “nightmare” that TS was talking about opponents who had a real shot at taking away their belt (which really is a nightmare for some of these highly competitive personalities). I would actually give TJ or prime Dom a better chance of beating DJ at 125 than I would Gus over Jones or Hendricks over GSP.

I think DJ beat the best in his class and had rematches with them. The rest were good fighters but really just next in line fresh fighters, fresh match ups, so I consider the fact he beat many fighters that just happened to be next rather than skilled enough to compete with him. Uncle Creepy could have beaten 50% of DJ's opponents.

When rank 6 becomes next in line for a title shot because he beat the first 5 already and sometimes more than once, those top 5 were still the best competition but made no sense for rematch after rematch.

He's the greatest in his division. A larger opponent would be rough for him, but the same could be said for most fighters. There's a reason there are weight classes. And he's the best in his.
