I believe he's a sentient being, just based on my observation of the show. He's shown a lot of concern for others and he put himself in risky positions to save others.

And I feel like he's self aware, just like humans.

What's your take on Data? Is he sentient?

Yes.

The tech bros in real life with their "AI" which isn't AI actually will likely never live to see an actual sentient machine contrary to the nonsense they spout, and that warms my heart.
 
No ........ I never thought he was . Depends on what you consider sentient though ?
 
He’s sentient. Pretty much the entire show was an exploration of the answer to this question, and the writers clearly favored the answer that he was sentient.
