So Connor claims that he should've uses energy more efficiently. And this is true, but shouldn't he always? And isn't it kinda obvious?

Is a really smart to constantly throw Power-Shots? Who would think that was a winning strategy?

He can get away with a goofy strategy because he's so much bigger than most 145ers. That's why he's used to them crumbling under his power. But really think about just ANY fighter constantly swinging for the fences...

A certain Chris Leben comes to mind...

Not at all lol but that's why he's so popular. His combination of constant trash talk and fighting with his hands at his waist was like watching someone speeding down the freeway in the wrong direction. It was pretty crazy while it lasted.

He definitely did some things that were questionable. He was spamming power shots and chasing down Nate the entire fight. He was so focused on the KO that he didn't even box to the best of his ability. That's why he was tired and that is why he was getting clobbered. It was like he wasn't even focused on Nate's game at all. Timing and athleticism can only get you so far. Conor showed that he either lacks a lot of fundamentals or he just disregarded them so that he could embarrass Diaz, which ended up turning against him.

In general, yes. Last night's strategy was the complete wrong way to approach a Diaz though.

I don't know. He explained it all pretty well, and he was very honest about his loss, but think about what he said: he basically expressed shock that constantly throwing power shots was inefficient....but EVERYBODY knows this!!

He's expressing surprise about what everyone who's ever been an athlete--at any level-- should know...

He obviously has a very high fight IQ but he fought like a dummie against Diaz.

Yes, in the way that if you're better at brawling than someone, you brawl with them, and they will fall down first. He was bigger, tougher and harder hitting than the feddaweights, so he fought smart against them. He just expected to be better at brawling than Diaz, but that wasn't the case. Diaz used some pretty damn smart defense/slipping as well.

it's a winning strategy for brutal KO artists like Rumble, Vitor, Wand, Chuck, Gomi and others.

In Conor's defense, it's hard to gameplan for the Diazs due to their diverse skills, ability to take punishment and this was a 25 minute fight and they go the whole way.

That's why he KOd Aldo in 13 seconds without trying and headhunted Nate with KO shots but couldn't. but in his defense, even LWs and WWs have a hard time KO Nate Diaz. Maybe he could have kickedboxed at a pace for 25 minutes instead of left haymakers. Going back/staying at 145 div. will help solve this issue anyway.

How is it obvious that he has a very high fight IQ? Where have you seen evidence?
Listen to the way he breaks down fights. I could easily see him being the next good analyst if he wanted to in the mold of Cruz, Bisbing, DC, Chael, ect.

I don't know. Sounds like you are judging by normal IQ. For example, I'd agree that Cruz and DC have high fight IQ (and high normal IQs). But I strongly disagree that Bisping or Chael have great fight IQs.

Connor clearly has mental gifts...it just isn't obvious that he applies him to his fighting as well as he applies him to his speaking...

that's what I call a swing and a miss. his fight IQ is great because of how he analyses? haha that makes no sense man. Does Luke Thomas have a high fight IQ too then?

There are different kinds of smarts, and many people become a lot less smart when they are too emotional. I don't think Conor is dumb at all, I think his emotions clouded his judgement, his ego got in the way.

wWhat fight best illustrates his fight IQ in your opinion?
He completely laid out what would happen to Aldo before the fight.

He wisely changed his gameplan against Holloway when he injured his knee.

He seems to always have his gameplan and stick to it generally speaking before this fight. What would make anyone think otherwise?

Yeah, but think about what he actually says. He was surprised that throwing constant power shots was inefficient...think about that for a second...how could he NOT know that?

What would make anyone think otherwise?

That he thought that it would be smart to just throw bomb after bomb and then expressed shock and surprise that he "wasn't efficient with his energy."

If he was a smart fighter, this wouldn't come as a surprise.

He thought he could finish Nate early for some reason. Again, I've said time and time again that his gameplan against Nate sucked. I'm asking for other examples.
