some people still act as though he's the greatest Middleweight talent to ever exist

I've never seen people act like that. I doubt there are enough to warrant this thread.

Should have retired right before Rockhold so we could sit there and declare him GOAT like Khabib's fans do.If he beat 15 cans prior to UFC and
retired undefeated after a couple defenses like khabob he'd be in goat discussion
He beat 38 year old Anderson and a 35+ Machida. Both guys had 3 times the mileage of Weidman. Vitor was on a killing spree but he was rendered powerless after they stopped letting him over juice.I don't know how you could call him overrated after absolutely destroying Silva x 2, Machida and Belfort. And I hate to say it, but his decline coincided closely with USADA
Maybe I'm raging on him. But it's a conversation.

Seriously? After all this time some people still act as though he's the greatest Middleweight talent to ever exist. In 10th pro fight he knocked off a GOAT. Kudos and hespect. But after that, his best simply wasn't good enough.
I'll admit he has one of the best skill sets to make him a difficult matchup for anyone, the best example for me being his fight with Kelvin. But there is absolutely NO reason for people to be so confident that he is a lock to beat anyone from his fighting generation or the one after.
His strength was his wrestling/grappling, as well as his size and length. He had a decently effective offensive striking arsenal but relied on his chin a LOT.
Also his fight IQ was somewhat questionable IMO. When he did get the takedowns, often times he was to eager to advance position or go for submissions that usually allowed his opponents to stand up, ie the fight with Gegard.
People say that " the Weidman that fought Machida could beat anyone", but the evidence disagrees. Yoel owned Machida as well as Brunson. Yoel also owned Weidman along with everyone Weidman fought from his own fighting generation.
He was underrated before beating Silva twice, then he went on to beat Machida and Belfort, so whatever people said about him after the Silva fights, he backed it up. The only fight where he may have been overrated was Rockhold. The wind left the sails of his career and he was never overrated after that, if he ever was in the first place. If anything, I believe he was mostly underrated during his career because of his style. It was grinding and un-flashy.He beat 38 year old Anderson and a 35+ Machida. Both guys had 3 times the mileage of Weidman. Vitor was on a killing spree but he was rendered powerless after they stopped letting him over juice.
Looking at the numbers, Weidman is barely a 50% fighter against top guys. Aside from Gastelum he has loss to every fighter he faced with similar age and mileage to him.

Give some examples of people in 2022 that still act like or think this.
Prime Weidman looked like he could beat almost anybody. Amazing knockouts standing up, world-class wrestling.
The Chris is 10 times the fighter Costa is. And I'm a Costa biceps-licker
On a good night, prime Weidman could beat anyone in his weight class, its just that, after his win over Vitor Belfort, the MMA gods saw fit that he would have no more good fight days on the day of the event. Chris has had the worst luck of any fighter i've ever seen.
prime chris was one of the best and most dominant fighters ive seen.
This is all just hindsight bullshit really. When he went on a tear leading up to the first Silva fight he was a serious problem. The way he disposed of Munoz was incredibly impressive and I actually picked him to beat Anderson. Didn’t see him knocking him out but I thought he would follow the Chael Sonnen game plan but actually be successful.
If you defend your belt twice against legit competition, you can’t be called overrated imo.
Lol get back to reality. I'd give Sonnen and Kennedy a better chance as they are more willing to hold you in one position or as some might say "lay n pray".Ts is mad that prime Chris would manhandle Izzy.
