Probably Jacare, Mousasi, Romero, maybe Rochold. Machida got the title by beating Mousasi in what was a great fight.. after Weidman Machida never beat a top 15 guy again.... which makes sense at 36 with a speed/reflexes based striking game
I'd say Romero

That generation is odd. Romero was so much older but that is the time frame he became a thing.

Id rank that generation something like this
Romero
Rockhold
Mousasi
Jacare
CW

Damn! CW is pretty low. That being said slight adjustments in like 3 of his losses and he could be #1 lol

The thing with Weidman is that he was one of those fighters that started to face heavy and top competition early in his career. In his 7th fight he fought Maia and then in his 10th fight it was Anderson Silva. And then the next 14 fights was mostly all top fighter and ranked fighters. Pretty much 90% of fighters that fight that level of competition have .500 records, some better some worse. But they have more padding prior.

Hes rated accurately which is a good fighter but not HOFamer. His clame to fame really was beating an older Anderson. After that he didnt do anything special.

Not a huge fan but that elbow he landed on Munoz was frickin sweeet.
You don't get a stoppage like that without being legit. Not like Munoz was an excellent striker but the timing of that elbow and the subsequent GnP was insane. MW truly sucks now.

No he is as good as his record. His record is good. Numbers are kinda as important as quality of opposition. And he fought a really high quality of opponents.

Hes had 20 surgeries across his back, neck, shoulders, leg break etc.

A healthy Weidman gives any UFC middleweight all they can handle.

munos and maia obviously best wins at 185 before he won the title. deserving, i think at that time those were the big dogs. obviously he dethroned anderson silva, twice, which is huge. then beat TRTLESS Vitor. and it showed.

then after that proceeds to get humiliated, right when the TRT era ends. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

and then from there, never the same again.

*** I will say his grappling/wrestling has always impressed me though. he had a match with andre galvao back then and he didn't look bad at all, he did surprisingly well i remember. you don't see any modern wrestlers in MMA also do abu dhabi and hang with the best and not get completely outclassed.

he won big fights at MW, and did the unthinkable. personally, i still don't think it was that great overall. their are better MW champions. Anderson Silva will always be one of the GOATS at that weight class, and if that is true, then you must bring up chris weidmans' name. So, yes.
