Is Chad Gable really that good?

I hear Jon Jones parading him like the next big thing. Well hes 2-0 and very unremarkable opponents. Idk what's next for him or how he will come to UFC

Still regardless of his potential, the start to his career reminds me of Greg Hardy

But people think hed steamroll Tom. I just want to know what people see in him. Maybe he will be on the contender series lol
He may be 2-0 against unremarkable opponents, but the UFC HW division is entirely unremarkable. Current champ is blind, half-retired, with a British boxing base, and a known quitter. Perfect matchup for a big wrestler like Gabe. #1 contender is a pure striker with zero wrestling/grappling. Another perfect matchup. Then the surging up-and-comer: random fat Dominican guy who excels at nothing. There isn’t anybody in the divsion who would even give Gabe trouble.

Look how quick all these cans are to shit on the most promising HW prospect in 15 years. Way to expose yourselves. An Olympic Gold Medalist in his prime who's training with Jon Jones and Gordon Ryan. Like you have to be actually fucking stupid to not realize this is a much bigger deal than Greg " Give my inhaler" Hardy.

He still has a lot to prove to me. Calling UFCs heavyweight unremarkable compared to Kevin Hein lol. At this point Idk how Gable would do against Mario Pinto

Dont get me wrong maybe hes the shit. I dont think we have the metric to tell though

People here were all over Gable the first time he was said to be getting into MMA. Now they about-faced because Jon Jones is coaching him <lmao>

He is the GOAT already. Nothing left to prove. He should retire on top.

Admittedly, he has perhaps been hyped up a touch too much, but I'm certainly on the Gable train. He is not just a gold medalist, but a fast learner with a natural talent for combat sports (seemingly). He's also someone that I get the idea understands the entertainment side of the industry; wrap all this up into one package and you have a ton of hype for someone. With all that said, he's still unproven so time will tell.

We're headed for a let down.
Honestly I hope he turns out to be as great as some are anticipating. I've lowered my expectation and am just in a wait and see mode.

TIL Olympic wrestler DC wasn't successful at HW

Agree. Not great HW. Very good HW, for sure. Best win in SF was Barnett. Everyone else old or can. First win over Stipe was dubious, then lost the next two. Lone UFC defense was Lewis, which was a cherry pick to avoid Stipe.

More impressive LHW imo.

On the contrary, Gable Steveson utterly failed as a professional wrestler because he's completely incompetent at the entertainment side of things. Hopefully that doesn't get too much in the way of his MMA career.

Maybe he needs zombie Lou Albano in his corner.

Way lower bar for MMA. Fans will put up with a lot as long you’re kicking the shit out of people. Chama don’t even speak English and we absolutely adore him. Gable just needs to be himself and he’ll be OK in UFC.

He likely beats every HW except Blaydes, Volkov, Tom right now, if his wrestling is conducive to MMA. Yoel's for examples was not

In a few years he'd likely beat all of them too.

It also comes down in large part to how he reacts to getting hit. HW hits are no joke.

Brock didnt react well but was able to avoid that due to his size, strength and speed.

Gable is probably a better pure wrestler but he doesn't seem as big as Brock. I also don't know how his explosiveness is.

as long as he works his way up and gains experience, he'll probably be champ in a few years.

That's an extremely good accomplishment that most fighters don't attain. One of the best GPs in MMA.
For sure. I'm of the mind that Strikeforce DC was as good as any hw fighter we've seen at their best. And yeah, what a great GP, and Cormier was an alternate entrant

Personally I don't see Gable ever being that good but I'd love to be wrong

Back then I thought Bigfoot Silva was going to destroy DC. The giant who just defeated Fedor was going up against a short, tubby wrestler with less than 10 fights who was a backup fighter for the tourney.

One can definitely get a sense of the athleticism he possesses, even during the brief fights he's had, based on the way he moves. He knocked dude out cold and was already in the process of taking him down when the fight was called, it was all super fast, and to me, impressive. He's definitely going to win some fights, he can do it based on just what he has right now. But as far as being some kind of all-timer, too many unanswered questions with this guy. As much as I dislike Jones, Jones singing Steveson's praises so early in the game does say a lot, but nothing is set in stone until Gable gets in the cage and does it. Until then, just a prospect with high upside.

the real test will be to see if he can survive getting hit hard by a HW.

my theory is, he don't like it.

he tried a brief foray into MMA years ago, before his brief foray into the NFL.

i think that is telling, me thinks he didn't like the punches.

but who knows, with a wrestling heavy gameplan, maybe he can acclimate, their has been a lot of time.

either way, it's an interesting prospect, but that's all it is for now.

beating up bums in bum leagues, doesn't mean he can take a HW bomb, or the criticisms of low life fucking losers on sherdog.

we'll see what he's made out of, the truth will soon be clear.

I mean he's easily top 10 as soon as he signs with the UFC.

Arguably top 5.

He could be top 3 after 2 wins.

HW is pretty bad right now and it's full of guys that can't wrestle, so gable could do really well
Not so fast. There are plenty of guys who can wrestle/grapple. Aspinall, Pavlovich, Volkov, Blaydes, Almeida, Spivac, Tybura, Walker. We’ve seen a lot of HW’s coming as stars ( Despaigne, Buchecha, Diniz) from different sports just to lose to UFC journeyman.

Maybe Gable will be a champion one day, but it’s really way to early to call him top5 or top10 even. Let’s see him against a decent HW first

Well I’ll be goddamned…I agree! Looks to have a lot of potential, but so did lots of other fighters in history who didn’t meet expectations. Let’s see how he does.
