Is Brocks standup one of the worst in the UFC ? Nerves seem to be the real factor.

He looks so scared and tentative on the feet. His standup last night consisted off pawing away Hunts head and throwing a feeble jab. He looked poor overall though, I must say. He fell to the floor multiple times when attempting take downs, he would go to shoot, then just drop to the mat and get back up, he was scared to really tackle Hunto at times.

I must say though that I was happy for him to get the win after his lay off and for him, this was something he really wanted to do, to prove something to himself. I hope last nights win gave him a bit of closure for his MMA career. (I went to bed straight after the fight, have no idea what he said himself on whether he plans to compete again or not).

Well in his old fights, he could take a punch, but was afraid to get hit so it was just a mental block from probably never really sparring people. Last night, he was facing the guy known as one of the top 5 strongest punchers to ever compete in mma. Hunt is mainly a counterpuncher & Brock had the whole world watching so he played it safe & didn't commit to any serious punches.

He probably doesn't have terrible standup (he broke Heath Herring's orbital bone with his first punch & knocked out Randy Couture), but he didn't want to be on a poster after a walkoff ko.

Brock will never be a good striker just like Hunt will never be a good grappler. Brock's weakness will always be strong strikers who can either use footwork to avoid his takedown or have such good takedown defense or grappling abilities they can get to their feet once taken down.

Hunts problem is he isnt a good grappler so when takendown he couldn't do much. Brock has an entire lifetime of wrestling experience. While Hunt has lifetime of striking. Only a few years ago Hunt was being submitted by everyone.

Basically it's too late for either men to excel in areas in which they never practiced in for most of their lives.

Well, Trawis Browne looked just as scared and tentative on the feet against Cain.

Lesnar looked awful in his last previous two UFC fights. I think in 2016, Lesnar/Carwin would have been stoppage depending on the ref. Lesnar had full mount on Hunt twice and did very little damage. He looked confused. And hunt should have had point taken away twice. Grabbing the fence to prevent a take down should be automatic point deduction.

The long layoff and not doing a strike exchange with Hunto was the smart gameplan. Rather go out with a win than a loss now the WWE can hype him up even more.

He looked absolutely scared to death and clueless but it was 5 years later, against Hunt. I dont know what to think really.

To be fair, I think he reacted better to getting hit than he used to.

I think having a 5 year break and not having any background in striking might be the reason for that. He's still a beast and would murk a lot of guys. I really want to see him avenge his loses. Econoreem imo, is small as fuck now and would get bullied by the beast. Same shit would happen to Cain. Diverticulitis Free Brock kill everybody. Also, as a guy who is inexperienced with striking ( and really MMA in general ) and beat a guy who is striker since the day he started fighting. He neutralized Hunt easily.

God it will be so cool to see all these threads hating on Brock now from salty guys.

Yeah, I get ya'. That's what I mean, he was more scared and nervous about exchanging than necessarily being a poor striker. I'm sure if he was confident and willing to take a hit, if he let them hands go he could look much better.

But as he was last night, his standup was extremely poor and I doubt he'll ever improve it notably at this stage in his career.

All I could think last night watching him is...Overeem would slaughter him again (or any other big dude who would throw leather). Hunto was plodding around slowly looking for one big hit when Brock would shoot in, he was clearly concerned about getting took down but still...it seemed to me if Hunt had really applied pressure and landed a few hits, Brock may well have wilted.

He did exactly what i knew he would attempt, and that was to use his size and strength advantage to outwrestle a K-1 champion with little grappling experience. He still can't take a punch thou that Lesnar.

hunt's must be worse since he couldn't knock him out.

also, WMMA.

He looked scares but i think he won the striking anyways. You forgot the leg kicks he threw which landed pretty well and were some of the only meaningful strikes thrown on the feet.

Is mark hunts take down defense some of the worst in the UFC?

Not as sexy a storyline I guess.

I agree. There was nothing that he did that showed me there would be a different result if he fought overeem or Cain again.

The ufc gave him a tailor made opponent, Brock should stay in the wwe if he doesn't want to get his face caved in.

I might get dubs for this but I honestly think this is the case, this man was clearly made in a lab...and I think when you are on steroids and then you don't have them on fight night you probably aren't as confident. He seems to have steroid fueled artificial confidence that can't be replicated on fight night because for being such a giant, he fights like a giant p***y.
