Is boxing good in the street?

LMAO, of course its "good".

good compared to what? no training at all and having a false sense of badassery?

I mean there's no guarantees in life but I would rather be an experienced boxer in a streetfight than have no training at all.

Not if he can't stuff a take down from a good wrestler :icon_chee

A boxer would get pummeled each and every time!

that will work until the boxers friend comes over and kicks you in the head. good luck fighting on the ground

captain chris' close combat system is the undeniable supreme street defense system ever created

Martial arts are NOT for streetfights. Hate people who get into it for the worst reasons

Ridiculous statement. Martial arts are for self defence... that is the street, fyi.

Boxing will teach you how to punch, how to move, how to take a punch & (most importantly) how not to take a punch.

I don't think there's any martial arts that transfers as much into street fight ass kickery as boxing. If you can call boxing a martial art - not knocking it, but I don't normally think of it as such. They train all day at knocking people out. No suits, no ceremonies, no kata, just face punching.

And I don't do boxing, so I consider myself impartial.

Boxing is a Martial Art. it may not fit into the mold of traditional Asian arts which have the things you list, but it is a combat art like the others. The only difference I really see is that it's really simple and everything has an applicable use.

AS to street fight applications, yes it's effective. Biggest problem is that you have the potential to break your hand. I'd rather use elbows and knees/kicks.

Random altercations start out with an abundance of tension. You cannot be tense if you're to box. I'd even say its impossible to box effectively with the initial amount of tension that occurs in a confrontation. You're better off winging bombs or wrassling. Thats pretty much all your body would allow you to do.

The 'Fight or flight' mechanism was put in place so a human being could take off like a jet and not look back, away from the immediate threat. Or to, in a fit of retard crackhead strength, wrestle the attacker to the ground and club him to death with their fists.

The Fight or Flight mechanism was not put in place for us to go 3 x 3 minute rounds of Street Fighting, lol.

you're obviously not a fighter

BJJ is great for MMA, absolutely great but in the streets it simpy doesn't work. With biting, eye gouging, hair pulling, headbutting, groin strikes and fish-hooking even a BJJ black belt won't submit me on the street

Not as good as wrestling

well, BoxIng actually its better than Wrestling
and it's actually better than Everything else for street fights

Please tell me you do Krav Maga. Please...

We had a short little chilean dishwasher at our old nightclub who saved the night with BJJ once when a biker twice his size decided it would be fun to hit his pal in the head with a bottle. He happened to be standing right behind him at the time, clinched him and held him until the bouncers got there probably 20 secs, and the guy was just completely immobile.

I read somewhere that all of the dodging and weaving that they do in boxing is pretty useless in the street cos the guy will just crash tackle you... plus boxers can't defend against kicks and grapples very well
