Dustin Poirier got knocked out yesterday and I realize that ATT does not really produce that many champs as a gym.

In general, when looking at the champs in the UFC you have the following:

Jon Jones who trains with Jackson Wink (New Mexico)
LHW is vacant but Jamahal Hill trained in Michigan
MW Champ Adesanya trains with Eugene Bareman out of NZ
WW champ Edwards is from the UK and trains there
LW Makachev trains at AKA in Nor Cal
FW Volk once again with Bareman and out of NZ
BW Aljaman with Serra Longo in NY
Flyweight Pantoja is the only ATT champ

Is South Florida MMA just overhyped?

Things ebb and flow. Just because they don't have many champs now doesn't mean they can't in the future or won't produce good fighters. Not a problem. Not every fighter can be the best and not every team can produce the best.

Gyms don't really produce talent. They take talent from other gyms and people think this is some magic sauce when it is just them basically recruiting.

If Yan, Amosov, Aliskerov, Pantoja, Horiguchi, Moraes come here to train in the US it is because it is an elite gym
And Eblen might be the best MW
They also have at least 3 good coaches while in other gyms 90% of elite fighters have the same coach, Nicksick at Extreme Couture, Mendez at AKA, Hooft at Kill Cliff, Longo at SerraLongo

ATT (coconut creek) is one of the all time best MMA gyms. They consistently have put out top talent for the last decade and a half. They also have a current UFC title holder as well as Bellator.

These types of threads are ridiculous and show that more of you need to get off the couch and go train because of your lack of understanding and respect for the sport and training as a whole. I get the “was never any good” thing is like a meme around here but I still find it mildly irritating and disrespectful to both fighters and camps.

I spent 2 years at ATT coconut creek and anyone that goes there for even a week and trained with the fight team would never have the fucking audacity to make such stupid fucking claims. Although most of you aren’t even built to complete a local cardio kickboxing class.

Utterly ridiculous reasoning in the OP. Why isn’t Justin the UFC LW champion? He’s had two cracks at it already.

Usman, and Rose are Ex-UFC champions that train with Wittman. They both lost their belts. So he must suck, right.

Oh wait. He coaches the “BMF”.

There is ZERO logic in the OP

Jon Jones doesn't train at Jackson Wink anymore, he got kicked out.

ATT also has Mayra Bueno Silva who is coming for that women's BW belt.

Alexandre Pantoja....

ATT has produce more top fighters and contenders than most Gyms in the past years,

Greg Jackson IMO is overrated and lucked out with Jon Jones & Volkanovski doesn't train with Bareman.

You should roll up to their gym and challenge someone to a fight. I'm confident you'll get a free lesson.<Lmaoo>

You can evaluate the value of a gym by seeing what they produce over a period of time (not just champs, btw), and how individuals change over time when they are associated with the gym (changes in baseline skills/abilities).

In that regard, ATT scores excellently.

I know the talent is deep because Mike Brown is constantly in UFC embedded coaching big name successful fighters.

Off the dome: (current and former)

When I was there 2012ish… I was in the gym everyday with guys like: Thiago Alves, Thiago Silva, Hector Lombard, Lawler, Poirer, Charles Blanchard, Barboza… a bunch of others. I spent 4 years in South FL and hopped between Blackzilians and ATT (2 years at ATT and 1.5 with Blackzilians)… I even spent some time at other FL gyms like MMA masters and port st Lucy ATT (Deans Thomas place).

Thats a cool list of people I would very much not want to be punched in the face by.

Hector Lombard and Thiago Silva are two of the scariest people I have ever trained with in my life. They both have a switch where they legitimately try to kill you or anyone if you get them with anything l. I have seen the two of them literally fight one another on multiple occasions to the point even the coaches knew not to get involved until one was too hurt or they were tied up and tired. Shit was honestly insane. Hector is responsible for hurting many many guys in training he is somewhat of a South FL gym bully of myth and legend. Although fun guys to hit the bars with lol.
