I really hope this is a metaphorical point people are making.

Or just tough guy talk with no actual basis in fact.

I understand defeating the government through voting, through voting with your wallet and donating to groups and lobbies that share your interests.

But in the 21st century in a first world country do rational adults who have never fought In their lives fantasize about fighting the greatest military presence in human history, in their own home where they’re children live?

It reminds of crazy people like Timothy Mcveigh, the Oklahoma City Bomber.
Thats the reality of blowing up a federal building and killing innocent people.

Everyone's gotta have a hobby.

Some on the (irrational) right has talked of taking up arms if tRUmp is impeached.

Occasionally. There was that whole Bundy related kerfluffle in the park.

McVeigh was one man.

Waco was a handful of men.

Vietnam and Afghanistan were small, backwards countries.

No one wants a violent confrontation, but if the government becomes a tyrant and starts marching people to camps, or trying to enslave us - there will be resistance, and we will win.

You gotta admit, it sounds way more romantic and righteous than "I like the sound it makes when it goes boom in my hand".

This is actually an interesting conversation. Terrorism, asymmetrical warfare, freedom fighters whatever you call it is how people envision fighting their government. The goal isn't to beat the government in a traditional war but to force the concessions and changes they value by making it politically expedient to do so.

The ability to own firearms and other weapons certainly play a role in that type of thing.

What this guy doesn't know is all the times he's been Baker acted he wasn't actually in a FEMA labor camp.

that's exactly what the revolution was

It's just a fantasy scenario trotted out by right-wingers because "fighting a rogue government" is the only remaining justification for opposing gun regulations that don't stop people from being able to hunt or to protect themselves from criminals.

People can’t defeat the military but it’s very hard for authorities to bust into homes of armed citizens. The second amendment serves a defensive purpose.

Can you name a single government in human history that hasn't abused people?

Even our government locked up the Japanese-Americans in camps, and pushed Native Americans to the brink of extinction.

A rogue government isn't a fantasy - its the norm. It's every government, ever.

You know, I really believe — you don’t know until you test it — but I really believe I’d run in there, even if I didn’t have a weapon.

Not saying the US would ever do it but, LOL @ your 2nd amendment vs drone strikes.. GL

Citizens probably aren't taking down the government...

But would the government be able to handle attacks from the inside and attacks from the outside all at once? And do you believe we couldnt get to that point with all the different forces at play? We already hate each other enough to slaughter each other daily..

How did Drone strikes work against 3rd world savages?

"I never had any bad feelings towards the U.S. until a drone strike destroyed a home in my village." - Quote from a young terrorist fighter in Africa

What would you do if Trump really had been interesting in becoming a tyrant or dictator and had the military backing him? Would you do as you're told or would you fight? How would you fight? Marches or taking up arms? If America suddenly turned into 1930's Germany what would you do? If you'd fight, how would you do so without guns? Do you expect to be rescued by Canada? Mexico? Europe? China? India? Russia? Japan?

Just curious.

It's too bad Switchblades, Butterfly knives, Brass knuckles, Nunchucks, and Shurikens are illegal.
I'd rather own one of these for personal protection instead of a firearm.

Sure the military could obliterate entire apartment buildings to get one terrorist but then it has a lot of collateral damage, so there is a reason to hold back on that. Whereas if the people are unarmed, military just walks in and grabs the guy.
