Is Alex Poatan's grappling now...

Not in anyone's wildest imagination. Anderson Silva is a 3rd degree BJJ black belt under Big Nog. He is an insanely elite grappler.

Alex has trained and competed so long at kickboxing he cannot reprogram those instincts to be a serious grappler, which he is about to learn very clearly against Jon Jones.

Yeah I thought i was in an alternate timeline reading that post. Silva's literal kryptonite was skilled wrestlers with adequate sub defense which thankfully weren't that abundant at MW during that era. Silva's an all time great no doubt but he certainly wasn't without his weaknesses.
 
It's hard to say since we really haven't seen it. I also hope he never do. Hopefully he keeps knocking everyone senseless, including Jon Jones.
 
Silva tapped multiple people on the title level. Worlds apart. Izzy who knows, neither of them are ever getting a ufc sub.

How in the world do you not know that I was talking about the second fight(you do remember they fought again, right? No you don't) which is why I said "Later on in his career" which was several years after the first fight where he fought with a badly injured rib.

That's the fight where Sonnen took him down in the first round and exhausted himself scoring 0 takedowns in the 2nd round, which is why I said strong wrestlers like him couldn't take him down in the second round.

Weidman casually took him down an out grappled him with ease.

You need to be punished for this. No pot for you for 3 weeks and you should apologize.
 
At his age I highly doubt it. He probably has some basic ground skills and that is about it. He sure isn't the drilling the hell out JJ or wrestling. Works on takedown defense is probably as close as he gets to weekly training on the ground. Mix in a little scrambling to get your feet and call it a day.

That's kind of the big question no one knows the answer to.
 
If any decent wrestler is at MW, LHW, or HW they should be highly favored over Pereira. Was kind of hoping to see Khamzat get the fight because that would've been a real test.

Pereira is probably good enough to stall out guys without real wrestling backgrounds. We saw the Jan fight, that tells you a lot where he is at with TDD. He barely scraped by and if we are being honest it's not as uncontested as people treat the fight like. Jan's grappling cardio blew and Alex was lucky to fight Jan at that stage.

Was Anderson Silva TDD great? Dont get me wrong, i might have poor memory, but Sonnen took him down at will in their first fight, but, once down Silva had legit ground game, unlike Pereira who is basically lost in there.
 
Ppl need to remember that Izzy took down Alex Poatan more than 2 years ago... Alex Pereira's grappling has been improving quickly since then. Jan is better than Izzy on the ground and Alex defended way better vs Jan than vs Izzy... Jan couldn't do anything damage wise when he took Poatan down in the first round. Jiri took him down in their first fight but then Poatan got up in that same round. In their second fight, Jiri Prochazka tried but did not even get close to dropping him.

So people bringing the first Izzy fight really are not following MMA, as... As I specified, it's current Alex Poatan, not the one who got taken down by Izzy, but the one who managed to stop most of Jan's take down, nullified Prochazka's takedown and has been improving since then. Try being objective.

Izzy failed every attempt to take Alex down.

Meanwhile, Alex took Izzy down at the end of Round 2 and dominated him.

Alex again tried to take Izzy down, in the middle of Round 3 — but Izzy reversed the move, mid-fall (due to Izzy's speed), and yes, Alex struggled after that, because it was a good move on Izzy's part.

The way I see it, Alex is bigger than Izzy, stronger than Izzy, has better grappling training than Izzy.
Ray Charles can also see that Alex is also continuously improving, by quantum leaps and bounds, while Izzy is fading into obscurity with 3 losses in his last 4 fights, 2 by finish (a KO and a submission).

I'm not 'pretending' anything.

The truth is, you are trying to make more out of "Izzy's brief grappling advantage" than what was actually there.

Anyone that has to try to shame their future opponents (Ankalaev) into standing with them is not good on the ground.
Much like how MVP is doing with Bullet.

I wish these striker dorks would go kickbox if they're so scared of grappling.

he's so much better that he got brutally ko'd in their last fight and had to rob izzy in their 1st fight, they are more equal than anything else
