There's a boat load of African countries that are doing quite well for themselves now. Obviously not up to American standards, but they are doing a lot better than most of Asia/South America. There are still countries that are complete shit holes, but Africa is a massive continent.

What kind of critera are you ranking them by? Cos it's certainly not GDP or life expectancy.

All you have to do is look at the major cities in many of these nations and you'll see it's completely different than you imagine. There is plenty of wealth in several African nations. It's generally along the Western coastal nations headed South to SA. Lots of new development in the region.
